Witherell named new director of Wyckoff Library
The Wyckoff Library Board has culminated a yearlong search for a new director by hiring Mary Witherell at a salary of $83,000. Library Board Director Vincent Antonacci and Mayor Kevin Rooney both said Witherell came with excellent credentials and represented the best choice for the position. Witherell is presently the director of the Harding Township Library. She will replace former Wyckoff Library Director Judy Schmitt, who resigned last year due to health issues. Adult Services Librarian Marilyn Force has served as acting interim director. Witherell is expected to take over in mid-October. “I think that out of all the persons the library board interviewed, (Witherell) was the most qualified and she was outstanding in her presentation,” said Mayor Kevin Rooney, who is also the Wyckoff Township Committee’s liaison to the library board. “I think she will do a great job leading the library forward into the future.” Witherell holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Columbia University and a master’s in library science from Rutgers University. She has about 20 years of experience in library and editorial work and has served as managing editor for several national magazines, including Ladies’ Home Journal, Self, and American Health. The Wyckoff Memorial Library is currently undergoing a renovation and is now represented by an outlet on Wyckoff Avenue that is providing basic services until the renovated library re-opens. J.
