The event will mark the beginning of the Advent season. Popin, noted concert pianist, worship leader, licensed minister, composer, writer, and producer, brings a unique style to the piano; his concerts are uplifting and exciting. Auxiliary hosts Holiday Luncheon The Midland Park Valley Hospital Auxiliary will hold its Holiday Luncheon on Dec. 7 at Bottagra, 80 Wagaraw Road in Hawthorne. The auxiliary ask attendees to bring a monetary donation to benefit the Adopt a Family program of the Valley Hospital. The cost of the luncheon is $20 for members. Firefighters collect for Toys for Tots The Midland Park Volunteer Fire Department is collecting for Toys of Tots this holiday season. Donations of new unwrapped toys may be dropped off at the firehouse on Witte Drive on Wednesdays between 7 and 9 p.m. or during regular business hours at: Legends Steakhouse, 118 Godwin Avenue; Rock Your Hair, 633 Godwin Avenue; Parisi Sports Club, 156 Greenwood Avenue; and Park Wood Deli, 342 Erie Avenue. The collection will run through Dec. 10. Firefighters will meet the train carrying Santa Claus and United States Marines at the Wortendyke Train Station on Dec. 10 to help with the collected toys destined for needy children. Christmas Drop & Shop offered The Midland Park United Methodist Church is offering parents an opportunity to drop off their children, ages four through 12, at the church for an afternoon of Christmas fun on Saturday, Dec. 3 from noon to 5 p.m. so parents may spend the afternoon holiday shopping. Christmas Tree Sale announced Midland Park United Methodist Church is holding its Annual Christmas Tree Sale on the church grounds at 269 Godwin Avenue. The sale hours are weekdays from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Stuffed animals being collected Midland Park Girl Scout Troop 470 is collecting Beanie Babies stuffed animals to use as packaging material in care packages destined for soldiers in Afghanistan. Soldiers distribute the toys to the children in area villages. The toys need not be new. The stuffed animals help with troop morale and establish a positive relationship between the soldiers and the children of Afghanistan. The toys may be dropped off at Midland Park High School, 250 Prospect Street and Highland School, 31 Highland Avenue, through Dec. 22. Thrift shop holds Holiday Boutique The Holiday Boutique at The Community Thrift Shop, located on the lower level of the Midland Park Shopping Center at 85 Godwin Avenue in Midland Park, is open. The shop will accept on only Christmas and holiday items, jewelry, and clothing after Dec. 1. Fifty-two member organizations, including churches and other non-profits, benefit from sales at the shop. Regular store hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Receiving hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays. Breakfast with Santa planned The Midland Park Fire Department will host its Annual Pancake Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 10 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the firehouse on Witte Drive. The event will include pancakes, sausage, coffee, juice, and the visit with Santa. Tickets are $4 per adult and $2 for children ages two through 12. Children under two years of age will be admitted free. All children will receive a souvenir photo and small gift from Santa. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Toiletries collection under way A collection of toiletries for a shelter in Camden is under way at Winnie and Belle, 293 Godwin Avenue. Shop owner Mari Keating Schofield chose this shelter for women because it is the only one in the city with shower facilities.
