Phyllis L. Alevras, nee Bowlby, of Midland Park, formerly of Roseland and Whippany, died Nov. 21. She was 77. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her children Christos Alevras of Livingston, Marianne Vannelli of Midland Park, and Kenneth Alevras of Whippany, six grandchildren, and her brother Russell Bowlby of Greenwood, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was predeceased by her husband Peter G. Alevras. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Memorial donations may be made to MPPE Foundation, P.O. Box 5, Midland Park, NJ 07432. Barbara Hoops, nee Manning, formerly of Wyckoff, died Nov. 18. She was 90. She is survived by her children Carol, Barbara Uhl, Kathleen Houtman, Richard Hoops, Elizabeth Welch, and nine grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Walter William Hoops, her parents Landon Carter and Eleanor Gray Manning, and her siblings Eleanor, Landon, Robert and Gordon. Arrangements were made by C.C. Helen Oltremare of Wyckoff, formerly of Ridgewood, died Nov. 20. She was 95. She was a parishioner of Saint Anthony’s R.C. Church of Hawthorne. She is survived by her children Vincent, Jr. of Oakland, and Helene Vasile, Annette Scordato, and Debra Rogers, all of Wyckoff. Gretchen Pucciarelli, nee Bornkessel, of Ridgewood died Nov. 18. She was 56. She had been a teacher at Ridgewood Nursery School and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Ridgewood. She is survived by her husband Albert, her children Melissa, Caroline, Paul, and John, one granddaughter, her mother Rae-Nelle, and her sister Heidi. Arrangements were made by C. C. Father Jerzy (George) Schneider of Ramsey died Nov. 22. He was 88. He was a member of the Salesian Community of Don Bosco Prep High School. He was born at Zywiec, Poland. During WWII, he was interned for four years in a German labor camp. He joined the Salesians in 1945 and made his first profession of vows on Aug. 26, 1946, in Krakow, Poland. He was ordained a priest in Oswiecim on May 30, 1953. He earned a master’s degree in fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow in 1961, and religious art became his chief apostolate for most of his 58 years as a priest. From 1961 to 1967, he was part of the Salesian community of Oswiecim, and he was rector of the chapel at the Auschwitz concentration camp from 1965 to 1967. He moved to the Salesian community of Don Bosco Prep in 1967. He spent the rest of his life there designing and executing works of liturgical art for numerous churches in the Northeast and for various vestment companies. He taught modern languages, art, and drafting. He went to many local parishes to celebrate Mass in Polish and looked after the numerous Polish immigrants in northern New Jersey
and southern New York. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Henry Sidorsky of Ramsey died Nov. 22. He was 94. He is survived by his children Patricia Calascibetta and Nancy Nazzaro, two grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and his sisters Adeline Bednarz, Helen Mapes, and Martha Makowski. He was predeceased by his wife Eleanor Sidorsky (nee Kelly), and his brothers Benjamin and Walter Sidorski. Arrangements were made by Van EmburghSneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey.
