Veterans Day service set The Midland Park/Wyckoff Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7086 will hold the annual Veterans Day Service in Veterans Memorial Park in the borough’s Wortendyke section (Central and Greenwood avenues), on Friday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. All are invited to join in honoring all past and present veterans and their sacrifices for the nation. Harlem Wizards to perform The Midland Park Basketball Association will host the Harlem Wizards Basketball Entertainment Team at Midland Park High School, 250 Prospect Street, on Jan. 15, 2012. The meeting will include a discussion of the auxiliary’s participation in the “Adopt- a-Family” program. Register for recreation basketball Midland Park Basketball Association has announced that registration is now open for recreation basketball. The program is open to boys in kindergarten through grade 12 and girls in kindergarten through grade 9. Community invited to Thanksgiving service The Midland Park community is invited to the Thanksgiving Community Worship Service on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church located at 183 Godwin Avenue. The service will begin at 5 p.m. and fellowship and dinner will immediately follow. AARP defensive driving course offered The Northwest Bergen Senior Activity Center in Midland Park will offer an AARP defensive driving course on Tuesday, Nov. 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The $16 fee includes the course, lunch, and refreshments. The AARP Driver Safety Program has helped millions to remain safe on today’s roads and save money on insurance premiums. The Northwest Bergen Regional Senior Center is open to all Bergen County area senior citizens, who are at least 60 years of age. A wide variety of activities, services, and a hot lunch program are offered Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. MPHS Class of 1981 sets reunion The Midland Park Class of 1981 will hold its 30-year reunion on Nov. 25 at Mark’s Village Inn, 422 Runnymede Drive in Wayne. Borough seeks returning vets Midland Park’s governing body would like to honor borough soldiers who have recently returned home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Danielle Van Kampen has earned the title of 2011 National American Miss New Jersey. Van Kampen is the daughter of Ruth O’Hara and Daniel Van Kampen of Ramsey and the granddaughter of Ruth O’Hara of Midland Park. She will attend the National Pageant to be held in Anaheim California at Disneyland® during Thanksgiving week. As New Jersey’s representative at that event, she will have the opportunity to win a share of over $500,000 in cash and prizes. Van Kampen is a student at Ramapo College, where she is on the Dean’s List. She is a member of the Golden Key Honor Society and Alpha Psi Omega Theater Honor Society.
