Former physician charged for unlicensed practice
by John Koster The Wyckoff Police Department arrested a former physician for practicing medicine without a license and for a number of thefts, including home burglaries and the theft of bicycles from around the neighborhood. The 46-year-old township woman was arrested on Oct. 21 by Detective Sergeant Joseph Soto and Detective Michael Musto with the assistance of investigators from the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs Enforcement Bureau. She was remanded to Bergen County Jail in lieu of $50,000 by Judge Russell Teschon. The investigation is continuing. Cannon’s medical license had been placed on an inactive status on June 30, 2011. Wyckoff police say, however, that she continued to treat patients who visited her home, functioning as a physician despite the lack of an active license to practice medicine. The police report that people were seen entering and leaving her home office, and she was charged with one count of practicing medicine without a license. Following the arrest, a number of items that had been reported stolen from nearby homes during the past several months were reportedly discovered inside her house. The items included bicycles that had been stolen from neighborhood garages, a large terra cotta planter, landscape lights, decorative patio chairs, and a laptop computer stolen from the kitchen of a home in the middle
of the night. The investigators reported that she had sold several stolen bicycles to a local bike shop for cash. The bicycle shop assisted in the investigation. Also found in the home were 50/50 raffle tickets she was presumed to be selling to patients on behalf of an organization that is not known to exist. The women was charged with four counts of burglary and theft from a residence, four counts of theft of property from the exterior of a residence, two counts of possession of stolen property, and one count of practicing medicine without a license.
