Republican Club to meet The Franklin Lakes Republican Club will meet on Monday, Nov. 7 at 7:45 p.m. at the Bender Court Ambulance Corps Building. Topics for discussion will include club nominations and support for county and borough candidates for the Nov. 8 election. The Franklin Lakes Republican Club is a non-profit organization established to represent the Republican Party in Franklin Lakes. It is devoted to the cause of community improvement and good government through the medium of an organized Republican Party and the support of candidates for public office who will best represent the interests of the residents and taxpayers of Franklin Lakes. Board of education to meet The Franklin Lakes Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the music room at Franklin Lakes Middle School, 755 Franklin Avenue. Library offers programs for teens The Advisory Council for the Community by Teens and for Teens will meet in the Franklin Lakes Library’s local history room on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. Franklin Lakes students in grades six through 12 who want to promote teen services in the library and organize community service programs locally or globally are invited. No registration required. Refreshments are served. Note: The group will not meet on Nov. 16. ACCT Teens have organized a community drive to collect items for Operation Smile, a not-for-profit medical services organization which provides free surgeries to repair cleft lip and cleft palates for children around the world. The Franklin Lakes Public Library is serving as a collection point for donations. The following donations are requested: 0.85 to 1.4 oz. shampoo (screw-on top only), small comb (no rat tails), new wash cloth, child size toothbrush (single

Kathy Moser, award-winning songwriter and musician, will offer a songwriting workshop for students in grades six through 12 on Thursday, Nov. 3 from 4 to 6 p.m. Participants will have an opportunity create, rehearse, and record an original song. The teen book group will discuss “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins on Wednesday, Nov. 9 from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. At the meeting, the group will have a presentation of Glogster, an interactive digital poster. Learn how to Glogster, then compete in the library’s Glogster Book Cover Contest beginning in January. On Nov. 16, Chef Vicky from Bravo TV will offer a cooking workshop from 4 to 5 p.m. Participants will learn basic cooking skills while making and eating their creations. Registration is under way. (continued from page 6) “The library director and trustees hope to work with the mayor to find a reasonable solution to the question of what excess funds may be returned to the municipality,” the statement concluded. “However, there is a process and law in place and we intend to follow that law. We have no intention of scrambling around to ferret out projects for the purpose of spending funds needlessly. However, we will continue to run the library in an efficient manner that is fiscally prudent and also meets the needs of the residents of Franklin Lakes. And we intend to continue to provide the high level of service that has become a trademark of our library.”

Mayer’s Karate and Fitness offers one of the area’s largest exercise/martial arts programs for special needs children, including many children with autism.
