Fire department to host memorial The Midland Park Volunteer Fire Department invites the community to its Annual Memorial Service on Wednesday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the firehouse on Witte Drive. The service will honor the deceased members from the department. Light refreshments will be served. Remembrance service scheduled The Midland Park Christian Reformed Church will hold its 21st Annual Memorial Day Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving on Sunday, May 29 at 5 p.m. The service will include a slide presentation consisting of historical and current pictures of service men and women in uniform. Community members are invited to submit photos of themselves or family members who have been (or currently are) members of the armed forces. Photos should be sent to MPCRC, 183 Godwin Avenue, Midland Park, NJ 07432. Attention: Memorial Day. Include the full name of the person in the photo, rank, dates of service, branch of the military, phone number, and address where photos should be returned. Deadline for photo submissions is May 25. Honorees sought The Midland Park Knights of Columbus Community Night Committee is seeking nominations of Midland Park citizens for its community recognition program. The Knights will recognize one outstanding adult from Midland Park, one from the Church of the Nativity, and an outstanding Midland Park youth. One person will receive the Outstanding Neighbor Award. Community Night will be held on June 2 at 7:30 p.m. During this event, the Knights will distribute donations to various charities, present several student scholarships, and recognize outstanding teachers and individuals who are active in the community. The public is welcome. Parade participants sought The Midland Park Memorial Day Committee encourages community civic and sports organizations, houses of worship, neighborhood activists and businesses to take an active part in this year’s Memorial Day Parade. Register for Olympic Day Registration is open for the Midland Park Olympic Day set for Saturday June 4 at 9 a.m. The program is open to children ages five through 12. Garage Sale set Midland Park United Methodist Church will hold a Garage Sale on Saturday, June 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church located at 269 Godwin Avenue (across from town hall). Midland Park resident and Ridgewood Police Officer Jeff Casson was recently honored by the Ridgewood Council and Ridgewood Police Department for his role in apprehending the men suspected of being involved in the recent jewelry store robbery in Wyckoff.

(continued from page 9) problems — and, in turn, provide an opportunity to be in touch with parents in a meaningful way 365 days a year. If your campers or staff members are involved in serious situations such as threats, stalking, and the transmission of sexting pictures that have potential criminal implications, call law enforcement immediately. You don’t want these issues to escalate and lead to consequences that leave you at risk. Document your efforts to get help from others, if you feel the situation is threatening. Designate a “Camp Internet Safety Patrol.” Have a single person or group of staff monitor the technology arena of camp. Find savvy tech personnel who can be trusted to manage this role in a way that makes it clear to other staff, campers, and parents that cyberbullying will not be tolerated. Documentation of all correspondence and your efforts to manage a problematic situation is your best protection from a future problem. Retain all records of Internet use between campers. This prevents denials by creating objective evidence of situations that arise. Make examples of those staff members who maintain positive, respectful interactions offline and online all year long. Work with parents. Encourage quick reporting, and encourage parental discussions of appropriate online behavior with their children. Graduation Ball Basket Auction tickets on sale The Midland Park High School Class of 2012 Graduation Ball Basket Auction will be held on June 18 at the high school located at 250 Prospect Street. All American Scout Café set Boy Scout Troop 157 invites the public to its annual “All American Scout Café” on Friday, May 27 at the Midland Park Fire House, 45 Witte Drive. The café will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Some of the menu selections will include meatball subs, sausage and pepper subs, hotdogs, and oldfashioned apple pie. Students with heart
First and second graders at Godwin School exercised their hearts and raised money for the American Heart Association at the same time. Under the direction of physical education teacher Brian DeCarlo, the students visited 11 stations and performed a variety of exercises. They did everything from jump rope to push-ups, hopscotch, and the shuttle run. Students who jumped rope the longest and did the longest standing jump won prizes. A total of $3,817 was raised for the AHA.
