Republican candidates for township committee, Tom Madigan and Doug Christie, will be available to meet with the league’s members. Swim team tryouts set The Wyckoff Y’s Summer Stingrays Swim Team will hold tryouts for its summer league on Saturday, June 18 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Y’s Spring Lake, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. All swimmers, ages six through 17, are invited. Coached by Francesco Peta, Scott Reiners, and Suzanne Stranzle, the Stingrays practice Monday through Friday from June 27 through July 29. Swim meets are held on Monday and Thursday nights. All swimmers age eight and under must complete 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke without stopping, and swimmers age nine and up must complete 50 yards of freestyle, 25 backstroke, and 25 breaststroke. Swimmers must come equipped with bathing suit, a cap, and goggles for the tryout. Call Kathy at the Y at (201) 8912081 for more information Petkus-Mason exhibits atY Alice Petkus-Mason will exhibit her paintings at the Wyckoff Family YMCA May 27 through June 24. After raising seven children and teaching school, PetkusMason began painting in watercolors, a life-long ambition. She has been working for the past seven years under the instruction of Joel Popadics at the Ridgewood Art Institute. Petkus-Mason has shown her work at the Ridgewood Art Institute, Art Center of Northern New Jersey in Milford, the Wyckoff Y Arts Shows, and Jane Law’s Gallery. Through her paintings, she has shared her love of animals, flowers, and landscapes from the many travels taken with her husband, and homes and lighthouses. The exhibit is open to the public during normal business hours and all works are available for purchase. Proceeds benefit the Wyckoff Family YMCA. The Y is located at 681 Wyckoff Avenue. RBARI hosts fundraiser The Blue Moon Mexican Café in Boulder Run Shopping Center in Wyckoff will sponsor a Community Night fundraiser to benefit The Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. on June 7. The restaurant will donate 20 percent of all lunch, dinner, take out, delivery, or gift card purchases. To participate, present a Blue Moon Community Night flyer from the website BlueMoonMexicanCafe.com. Click on the community tab, then click Community Nights, and scroll down to RBARI. Memorial Day activities set The Annual Wyckoff Memorial Day Ceremonies and Parade will be held Monday, May 30 beginning with the ceremony to honor deceased firefighters at Firehouse #1 at 9 a.m. The Veterans’ Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on the lawn of the Wyckoff Reformed Church on Wyckoff Avenue, site of the Township’s War Memorial. All local Gold Star Mothers, military veterans and the community are invited to attend the service and parade. In the event of rain, the parade will be canceled and the memorial service will be held inside the church. Charles Ryan, past commander of the Midland ParkWyckoff V.F.W. Post #7086 will serve as master of ceremonies for the memorial service. The Honorable Kevin J. Rooney, mayor of Wyckoff, will give the welcoming address. This year’s parade grand marshal is World War II Veteran Harold Allen, USMC and United States Army Specialist David Galasso will be speaker. The invocation and benediction will be given by Rev. Judy Anne White of from Grace United Methodist Church. Bill Brock and Cheryl Spirer-Wyka will be the vocalists. This year’s parade theme is “Remember our Wounded Warriors.” The parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Cornerstone Church and proceed down Wyckoff Avenue, turn right onto Main Street, right onto Franklin Avenue, and left into town hall and end at the ambulance corps building. The staging area for parade participants is behind Cornerstone Church. Refreshments will be provided behind Fire Company #1 courtesy of the Wyckoff Township Committee and the Parade Committee. Art supply donations sought The Longview Assisted Living Residence at the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff is planning a centennial celebration with its Second Annual Art Exhibit in September. Longview is seeking donations of art supplies including canvases, paint paper, foam boards, acrylic paints, watercolor paints, colored pencils, pastels, stamps/ink, airdry clay, and brushes. The event will showcase the residents’ artwork throughout the year. The elderly, especially those with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, often find that art therapy is a great tool for expression. Contract (continued from page 5) were enrolled in a point of service health insurance plan with an 80/20 out of network benefit and a reduction in the out of pocket maximum to $1,000/$2,500. The previous three-year contract also modified the payout for unused sick days so all current balances were frozen for certificated staff members and all unused sick days accumulated after July 1, 2007 would be paid out upon retirement at $125 per day to a maximum of 200 days. In addition, that contract changed the holiday benefit for some employees and set rules for temporary leaves of absence and personal days and. The agreement also obligated fulltime teachers to 25 teaching periods per week, five supervisory periods per week, 10 preparation periods per week, and 131 additional minutes per week, including an extra 45 minutes per month for long faculty and department meetings plus 30 minutes after school for four days per week.
