Memorial Day Parade plans under way The Borough of Franklin Lakes invites veterans, military personnel, and cadets to participate in the Memorial Day Parade scheduled for May 30. Marching in this year’s parade will be the Ramapo and Hawthorne high school bands and the Newark Pipe Band. Several borough organizations, including Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and participants from the Franklin Lakes Recreation programs, will be marching along with military trucks, fire trucks, ambulances, and an antique car. VFW Post 5702 has prepared a special memorial plaque listing Franklin Lakes residents who died in combat from the Civil War through the Vietnam War. The tribute will be presented to the borough on Memorial Day. To ensure the plaque is current, the Post is asking for information about borough residents who died in combat. For more information, or to participate in the parade, contact Nancy Yarish at (201) 891-0048, extension 1204. In conjunction with the Mayor’s Wellness Program and in memory of Dr. Cheryl Welch of the Franklin Lakes Veterinary Hospital, the parade will also include a Critter Walk. Participants will march in the parade with their pets to raise funds for the Critter Fund set up by the Franklin Lakes Animal Hospital to aid in the care of community animals and the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer. Following the parade, Critter Walk participants will go to municipal field on DeKorte Drive behind borough hall and walk laps around the field. Family friends and neighbors can sponsor participants for every lap they make around the field. To register for the Critter Walk, contact Mary Ellen Marraat (201) 857-3930 or MaryePremiere@aol.com.
