As the result of a motor vehicle stop on Godwin Avenue at 2:23 a.m. on May 8, a 32year-old Paterson resident was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Officer Joseph Gaeta observed the vehicle cross onto the center line several times and the driver was not maintaining a constant speed. In speaking with the driver, Officer Gaeta detected an odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle and conducted field sobriety tests. The male was subsequently brought to headquarters and processed. He was released into the custody of his brother-in-law and assigned a date to appear in the Midland Park Municipal Court. Officer Noah Van Vliet and Detective Gibbons assisted. At 2:45 a.m. on May 8 when Officer Van Vliet was following Officer Gaeta into headquarters to assist in the previous incident, he observed a vehicle speeding and driving erratically on Godwin Avenue. Officer Van Vliet stopped the motorist. In speaking with the driver, he detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her person. Following field sobriety tests, the female, a 33-year-old Midland Park resident, was arrested and transported to headquarters for processing. Summonses were issued for DWI, speeding, failure to keep right, reckless driving, and refusal of breath tests. She was released under the Provision of John’s Law into the custody of her boyfriend and is to appear
in the Midland Park Municipal Court. Sergeant Brown and Officer Plisich of the Wyckoff Police Department assisted in the investigation. As the result of a suspicious vehicle investigation on May 8 at 8:45 p.m., an 18-year-old male resident of Waldwick was arrested. Sergeant Michael Powderley observed the vehicle parked on Grove Street with its parking lights on. In speaking with the driver, Sgt. Powderley detected
a strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle and, in plain view, he observed a clear plastic bag containing a small amount of what appeared to be marijuana. When asked, the driver stated he had drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Upon completing field sobriety tests, the subject was arrested and transported to headquarters. He was released with a pending court date. Officer Steven Vander Pyl assisted.
