Midland Park May 18, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 11 Midland Park expects to hire a part-time recreation director, supported by clerical assistance at town hall, to replace former director Lori Dent. Mayor Joseph Monahan said during last week’s mayor and council meeting that the board of recreation had recommended the downgraded position, which would be salaried, with no benefits. He said a salary had not yet been determined for the 20-25-hour job. Dent resigned her full-time position in February after 10 years on the job, which was originally part-time. Since then, parents and camp counselors have been attending council meetings praising Dent for the programs she had developed and asking that she be asked to reconsider her resignation. Dent said last week that after a month of interviews, she has accepted two part-time positions to replace her Midland Park job. She will be the developmental coordinator for the Children’s Learning Center of Wyckoff at Fardale, one of the original day-care centers in the northwest Bergen area; and she will be the recreation aide for Recreation post will be part time; Dent has new jobs the Borough of Oakland. “It was a big void to fill, and it was hard, because I loved my job. But I am very excited about my new positions and the challenges they offer,” Dent said. At the daycare center, Dent will be in charge of developing new programs, direct the Kindergarten summer camp and coordinate the after-school program. She will do some teaching as well, she said. In Oakland, where she lives, Dent will have an administrative role supporting the Recreation Commission, which is comprised of seven commissioners and two alternates. She will be in charge of purchasing, coordinate field use, facilitate scheduling, handle the permit process and program publicity. “I’m very excited to have her and can’t wait to have her here,” said Oakland’s Borough Administrator Richard Kunze. The administrator said that one factor in selecting Dent over other applicants was that she has a successful track record working with volunteers. “That was very important to us,” he said. Kunz also noted that while he had originally recommended to the Oakland Council the establishment of a full time recreation position, that is no longer the case. “We are not looking to turn it into anything else,” he said.
