McMahon The voters in Franklin Lakes approved the local school district’s $24,571,928 tax levy to support the local school district’s $27,610,948 budget by a 592 to 307 margin in last week’s school board election. The Franklin Lakes voters also joined the voters in Wyckoff and Oakland in approving the Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School tax levy of $45,746,847 to fund the school district’s $49.1 million 2011-12 budget by a 2,711 to 1,655 margin. Voters in all three towns supported the tax levy/ budget. In Franklin Lakes, the voters also reelected two incumbent school board trustees and elected one new trustee to the K-8 board of education while also electing a new board member to fill an unexpired term on the board. Incumbent Susan McGowan, who was appointed to the local school board in August 2010, received 675 votes, the highest of all the candidates; followed by incumbent Larry Loprete, who received 561 votes; and newcomer Craig Urciuoli, who received 480 votes. Jamie Martino was elected to a one-year unexpired term on the board. Carolyn Reitz, currently the vice president of the board, received 410 votes and was not reelected to the board. Trustee Lisa Sciancalepore did not seek reelection. McGowan currently serves on the board’s Policy and Curriculum committees, and on the district’s Efficiency Study Committee. This six-year borough resident has two daughters at High Mountain Road School. Loprete has lived in Franklin Lakes for nearly eight years. His children attend the Colonial Road School and the Franklin Lakes Middle School. He currently serves on the Policy and Operations committees. Urciuoli moved to Franklin Lakes in 2006. He has a son in first grade at the Colonial Road School and a younger child who will begin kindergarten at that school in the fall. Martino has lived in Franklin Lakes since 1999. Her children attend the Woodside Avenue School, Franklin Avenue Middle School, and the Bergen County Academy. On the regional school board, the voters in Wyckoff elected Isabelle Lanini to replace Jeff Brown, one of the current incumbent Wyckoff trustees on the regional school board, who decided not to seek reelection. Lanini received 727 votes to 641 for Kenneth A. Porro and 175 votes for Sabaudin Skenderi. Two Oakland incumbent board trustees, Sadie Quinlan and Jane Castor, ran for reelection to the regional school board unopposed and were reelected with 746 and 694 votes, respectively. Lanini has two children: a senior at Indian Hills High School, and a freshman at Ramapo High School. She has been a volunteer on the Coolidge School Parent Teacher Organization where she was the secretary for two years and first vice president for two years. She also was the PTO president at the Eisenhower Middle School for two years and was involved with the PTO websites for the Coolidge and Eisenhower schools from 2000 to 2007. Quinlan will serve her third term on the regional school board. She was previously the president of the Dogwood Hill School Parent Teacher Association. She is a past president of the board and has served on the Facilities, Education, Personnel, and Negotiations committees. She was also liaison to the Oakland School District. Castor will serve her second term on the board. She has lived in Oakland since 1990 and has two sons, one of who is a senior at Indian Hills High School. She has served on the Policy and Crisis Management committees, and she has served on and chaired the Education and Personnel committees.
