May 4, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 21 The Wyckoff Police Department has charged a Delaware woman with conspiracy to commit identity theft, conspiracy to commit credit card fraud, and being a fugitive from justice in Pennsylvania. The 27-year-old woman was committed to Bergen County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail after she was arrested on April 21 on Lake Road, where police believe she was preparing to perpetrate a crime by deception. Patrolman Michael DeMaio responded to telephone calls from Lake Road about a parked car and discovered the woman parked near a home on the road. She reportedly claimed to be in the area to purchase a vehicle, but Wyckoff police charge Delaware woman with ID theft the police officer described many aspects of her story as “completely nonsensical,” and called for back-up from Detective Sergeant Joseph Soto. The woman changed her story about why she was in the area a number of times, and had no identification except for an expired Pennsylvania driver’s license. A computer check revealed that there was an active warrant for her arrest in Pennsylvania, and that she had previously been arrested in Pennsylvania on identity theft charges. Further investigation suggested that she was waiting outside the Lake Road home for the delivery of a credit card by FedEx so she could intercept the credit card before it was delivered to the occupant of the house. The Delaware woman had considerable information about the occupant on her person. Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox praised both police officers and urged residents to call police headquarters if they notice suspicious vehicles in residential neighborhoods. Chief Fox noted that the Delaware woman had been parked in the neighborhood for two days before anyone called the police to suggest they look into why the car was parked there. J.
