Donald C. Ericksen of Midland Park died April 28. He was 80. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. Before retiring, he worked for the Manhattan Life Insurance Company in New York City. He is survived by his wife Jean (nee Schill), and his son Paul Ericksen, and one grandson. Arrangements were made by Olthuis Funeral Home in Midland Park. Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, Bergen Unit, 20 Mercer Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601. Edward Fylstra of North Haledon, formerly of Wyckoff, died April 26. He was 91. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was a certified public accountant and managing partner of Fylstra, Wright, and Co. of Hawthorne. He was a member of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was a founding board member of Atlantic Stewardship Bank and a former board member of Eastern Christian School Association. He was a member of Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff. He is survived by his wife Edith, his sons Edward of Wilmington, North Carolina, Ralph of Allendale, and Robert of North Haledon, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and his sisters Marjorie Bandstra of North Haledon and Agnes Bandstra of Wilmington, North Carolina. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Memorial donations may be made to Eastern Christian School Association, 50 Oakwood Avenue, North Haledon, NJ 07508. Frank Ilchisin of Ridgewood died April 21. He was 89. He was a U.S. WWII veteran. He worked for many years as a service engineer for RCA and Hewlett-Packard. He was a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Mildred (nee Malensky), his children Frank Ilchisin Jr. and Sandra Ilchisin, two grandchildren, and two greatgrandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Dennis Ilchisin. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Victor C. James Jr. of Marietta, Georgia, formerly of Ramsey, died April 16. He was 78. He was a parishioner of Saint Paul’s RC Church in Ramsey. He is survived by his wife Lois James, his children Patrick, Victor, Anne Marie, Lois, Edward, Kevin, and Terrence, and 12 grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Anna Kloeber, his children Leonard Jr. of Minnesota and Steve of Ramsey, and four grandchildren. Before retiring in 1995, he was a lieutenant in the Ridgewood Fire Department and was the owner of Ed’s Lawn Sprinklers. Most recently, he was employed as a realtor for Gilsenan Realty in Ridgewood. He was survived by his wife Judith “Judy” (nee Hill) Outslay of Midland Park, his daughters Tracey Outslay of Stamford, Connecticut, and Donna Yaccarino of Allendale, two grandchildren, and his brother Marinus Outslay of Florida. Suleski of Mahwah died April 21. He was 64. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an usher at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, and a member of VFW Post 7124, both in Mahwah. He is survived by his wife Anne (nee Quinn), and his sisters Christine Richter of Hardy, Virginia and Carol Jazylo of Wyckoff. He was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Mary (nee Sochulak). Yvonne Bordia Sweeney, nee Nicholls, of Franklin Lakes, died April 21. While living in Australia, she was a business manager. She was a volunteer for Kurth Cottage at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. She was a parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church in Franklin Lakes. She is survived by her nephew Charles Kahwaty of Franklin Lakes, and her sister Lurline Horton of Australia. She was predeceased by her husband Frank Sweeney, and her siblings Patricia M. Kahwaty, Hazel Jackson, Constance Cameron, and Manfred Nicholls. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home in Franklin Lakes. Sarah Swenson of Wyckoff, formerly of Ringwood, died March 27. She was 95. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church XYZs, the Saint Elizabeth’s Senior Club, and the Wyckoff Seniors. She is survived by her children Donna Brovero of Wyckoff and Tom Swenson of Oakland, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Crine. Veterans, military personnel sought The Borough of Franklin Lakes invites veterans, military personnel, and cadets to participate in the Memorial Day Parade scheduled for May 30. VFW Post 5702 has prepared a special memorial plaque listing Franklin Lakes residents who died in combat from the Civil War through the Vietnam War. The tribute will be presented to the borough on Memorial Day. To assure the plaque is current, the Post is asking for information about borough residents who died in combat. Teen Poetry Contest winners announced The Franklin Lakes Library’s Teen Poetry Contest winners were announced during National Library Week. Andrew Fong, sixth grader at Franklin Avenue Middle School, took first place. He received a $50 American Express Gift Card for his poem, “Dandelion.” Three runners up received $25 Barnes and Noble Gift Cards. The winners included Michael Park, eighth grader at Franklin Avenue Middle School, for “The Candle;” Danielle Linz, eighth grader at Franklin Avenue Middle School, for “Your Fairy Tale;” and Marica Lesznick, sophomore at Ramapo High School, for the poem, “How a Hippo is a Cookie.” The winning entries are on display in the library and at http://katethelibrarian.blogspot.com. Summer camp, Safety Town set The Wyckoff Family YMCA will host a summer recreation camp for Franklin Lakes children in kindergarten through grade eight. Five week-long sessions will run June 27 through July 29 (no camp July 4) at $95 per week. Junior Camp, for children in kindergarten through grade four, will be located at High Mountain Road School. Senior Camp, for children in grades five through eight, will be held at Woodside School. This year’s theme is “Road Trip USA.” Campers will participate in sports, games, arts and crafts, on-site entertainment, off-site trips, water fun, and more. The Y will offer Safety Town for Franklin Lakes children who will be entering kindergarten in September. This camp teaches community safety and features lessons from community helpers, including representatives of the Franklin Lakes Police Department, ambulance corps, and fire department. The children are taught safe practices regarding strangers, pedestrian and traffic safety, poisons, bicycles, riding school buses, and water safety -- which is taught at the Y’s Spring Lake. Snacks will be provided, and the program will be held rain or shine at High Mountain Road School, July 11 through 21 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The cost is $110. Registration forms for Safety Town and the summer camp programs are available at the Wyckoff Family YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff and at the Franklin Lakes Recreation Office, 1 Vichiconti Way in Franklin Lakes.
