Wyckoff
Wyckoff’s spring cleanup will start with Team Up to Tidy Up on Saturday, April 2 and shift into high gear as the spring leaf collection begins on Monday, April 4. Team Up to Tidy Up allows volunteers to do hand-tohand battle with litter and trash that has accumulated on land not under private or municipal ownership and supervision. Volunteers include youngsters, groups, Scouts, and

municipal officials. The volunteers meet at or before 9 a.m. on the second floor of Wyckoff Town Hall to receive supplies and light refreshments while forming teams to tackle various areas that need attention. The work is generally done well before noon. Dozens of bags of trash and recyclable materials are picked up and a group picture – sometimes including more than 200 volunteers – is an annual tradition. Two days after the cleanup, the annual spring curbside leaf collection program will begin in District 1. The Wyckoff Department of Public Works will work sequentially through the township’s eight districts. A second round will probably begin on April 11. Residents should
check their municipal calendars to confirm the districts in which they reside. Collection procedures allow leaves to be placed at the edge of the lawn, adjacent to the road, along the entire frontage of the residential property. Newly adopted and mandatory state stormwater policy regulations provide that placement of leaves is prohibited on the roadway, and leaves may not be placed within 10 feet of any storm sewer inlet on the street. Leaves must be kept free of branches, which can clog the vacuum hoses and lead to delays in the process. Residents may also bring leaves and branches, separately, to the Wyckoff Recycling and Conservation Center on West Main Street.
Township police break up drinking party
The Wyckoff Police Department broke up a group of under-aged drinkers after a speeder inadvertently led them to the scene of the party. On March 20 at 3:45 a.m., Sergeant Michael Ragucci stopped a vehicle reportedly speeding at 50 miles per hour on Wyckoff Avenue near Russell Avenue. The driver was an 18-year-old Wyckoff male. Subsequent investigation revealed that the driver was headed back to his home, where the drinking party was said to be in progress. Sergeant Ragucci, assisted by Sergeant Jack McEwan and Patrolman Kevin Kasak, closed in on the targeted house and when they arrived at the home the teenagers began to flee in all directions. The police apprehended 10 teens. The driver, who lived at the house, was charged with making a property available for persons under the legal age to consume alcohol, speeding, and improper maintenance of vehicle lamps. He was released on his own recognizance and faces a court appearance.
