Republican Councilman Patrick “Bud” O’Hagan will be seeking the four-year term in the June Primary. Monahan said that “after much careful thought and consideration of all factors,” he based his decision on the ever-increasing demands of his professional career. “Since assuming my new role in 2009 with a new employer in tremendous growth mode, the demands of the position have grown dramatically. That said, it became clearer of late that it was in my family’s best interest and that of the community’s to make this decision at this time,” Monahan said. “Finally, I wanted to make this public as soon as possible so that if any other interested party wishes to pursue the honor of serving the community as mayor, they would have ample time to get their notarized petition into the county prior to June’s primary,” he added. O’Hagan said he is decided to run because he wants to continue his leadership role within the borough at the highest level. “Having served 22 years on the town council and an additional 10 years on the board of adjustment, I believe that I am prepared to face and handle the duties of the Office of Mayor of Midland Park,” O’Hagan said. “Midland Park is a well run and efficient government entity. To quote a person from our auditing firm: ‘I would be hard pressed to find another community that is as well positioned and financially sound.’ I have been part of the budgeting, hiring, policy making and steering of our community and I want to continue in the direction we have chosen,” O’Hagan said, adding: “Additionally, Midland Park has been in the forefront of using and participating in shared services. He and his family are active in the PTA, special education, recreation league, Scouts, Midland Park Education Foundation, and are Church of the Nativity parishioners. O’Hagan is a Realtor with Terrie O’Connor Realtors, Allendale office. A graduate of Ramapo College, he is an active member and past president of the Midland Park Lions Club. He heads the council’s Police and Fire Committee and is the borough’s representative to the Joint Insurance Fund, a cooperative venture with other municipalities which manages the town’s insurance policies. O’Hagan also sits on JIF’s executive board.
