Spring tennis lessons offered The Wyckoff Recreation and Parks Department will offer its Spring Tennis Learning Program to Wyckoff residents from kindergarten students through adults. The program will be directed by Tennis Dynamics under the guidance of Bill Bess. Two five-week clinics will be offered on Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m. beginning April 29 and Saturdays from 12 to 4 p.m. beginning April 30. Participants may register for one or both clinics, subject to space availability. The onehour clinics will be held at the Memorial Tennis Courts. Registrations will be accepted at the recreation office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, April 4 through 15. Early registration is encouraged as there is limited space in each session. Summer enrichment program offered The Wyckoff School District is now accepting registrations for its summer enrichment program. Summer Sizzlers offers new flexibility with a longer day, a two-week option, and diverse courses. Residents of Wyckoff and neighboring towns are welcome. Seniors plan luncheon The Wyckoff Seniors will hold an anniversary luncheon on Tuesday, April 12 at the Brick House in Wyckoff. The group meets on Tuesdays at 11:15 a.m. at the Larkin House, 380 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. Worship music workshop available Alex Mejias of High Street Hymns will lead a worship music workshop and share the music of High Street Hymns for area churches on Friday, April 1, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Powerhouse Christian Church, 500 West Main Street in Wyckoff. High Street Hymns is a worship music project dedicated to bringing fresh contemporary arrangements to historical hymns of the church. Mejias has authored over 50 original hymn tunes and songs. Many of them can be heard at highstreethymns.com. In addition to live music, Mejias will lead a workshop on songwriting and hymn arranging, music ministry vision, history and theology of worship, and inter-generational worship. Admission is free. For information, call (201) 540-1993. ‘Oasis from the Office’ offered Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff is offering “Oasis from the Office,” an enrichment program designed specifically for local church secretaries, administrative assistants, and administrators. The program will be held three times a year and will include lunch and a 30-minute presentation on a topic of interest. The first “Oasis from the Office” will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, in the auditorium (use the 700 Mountain Avenue entrance).
The presentation topic is “Computer Strategies for Publishing and Social Media” and will be presented by Jennifer D’Angelo, CHCC’s assistant vice president of information services. Woman’s Club offers scholarships The Woman’s Club of Wyckoff will award three $2,000 scholarships to Wyckoff residents who are graduating high school seniors planning to attend college in the fall. Applications may be obtained in local high school guidance offices or by contacting Mrs. Frank Nigro, Scholarship Chairperson, 602 Barrister Court, Wyckoff. The deadline for applications is March 31. ‘Reach for the Stars’ scholarship offered In conjunction with its annual “Friends of the Y Dinner” and William E. Boye Humanitarian Award, the Wyckoff Family YMCA will offer a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving high school senior who has “reached for the stars” in terms of charitable outreach, achieving a personal milestone despite difficult circumstances, or attempting the “impossible” and making something incredible happen. Students are invited to submit a brief essay about their accomplishments along with two letters of recommendation by Wednesday, April 6. The award will be presented at the Friends of the Y Dinner on Wednesday, May 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wyckoff Family YMCA. The winner will attend the dinner along with his or her parents as guests of the Y. Leadership training simulcast offered Dave Ramsey, well-known author and radio show host, will broadcast live from Nashville, Tennessee on Friday, April 1 from 9:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church, 422 Cedar Hill Avenue in Wyckoff. This one-day event is tailored for anyone in a leadership role. Ramsey will share how to lead a team and grow a business from a biblical perspective. The seminar will be held in the church sanctuary. Ladies Night Out set The Wyckoff Reformed Church Nursery School will hold its Seventh Annual Ladies’ Night Out and Prize Basket Fundraiser on Thursday, March 31 at 7 p.m. in the church’s Heneveld Hall, 580 Wyckoff Avenue. The event will feature many prizes and vendors. The admission is $5 and light refreshments will be served. Foundation sets Spring Fling Wyckoff Education Foundation will host its Annual Spring Fling Fundraiser and Dinner Dance on April 2 at The Indian Trail Club in Franklin Lakes. Entertainment at the event will be provided by “The Benjamins” band. This year’s theme “Developing 21st Century Learners” acknowledges the rapid advances in education and learning needed
to be competitive in the new millennium. The foundation is endeavoring to purchase Apple iPads for the students. The evening will include special prize baskets, and DJ. Tickets cost $90 per person. Easter Egg Hunt set Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church will host it first Easter Egg Hunt on April 16 at 2 p.m. (Rain date: April 23.) Lace-Up for Habitat seeks participants The Wyckoff Reformed Church is looking for walkers, bike riders, sponsors, and helpers for the Eleventh Annual Lace-Up for Habitat fundraiser on April 9. Leaving the church at 8:30 a.m., participants will walk or ride seven miles to the Habitat for Humanity offices in Paterson. Rest stops and snacks will be provided along the route. Drivers will return walkers to the church parking lot afterward. The Wyckoff Reformed Church “Lace-Up” has raised in excess of $190,000 for the Paterson Habitat for Humanity over the past 10 years. Wyckoff residents who live on or close to a waterway and believe geese are nesting on their property may request a visit by local GeesePeace volunteers. Adult chorus forming The Wyckoff YMCA has announced the start of an adult chorus on Mondays from 7:30 to 9:15 p.m. in the Y’s Community Room at 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. This chorus is in addition to the existing chorus that meets on Tuesdays from 1:15 to 2:30 p.m. Any adult with a love of music is invited to either or both sessions to sing a variety of music including American standards, spiritual, folk, and light classical selections. Wyckoff Library’s temporary site open Renovations at the Wyckoff Public Library are about to begin. The library is now open at its temporary location: 637 Wyckoff Avenue in the Wyckoff Shopping Center. Hours will be Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library will be closed on Sundays.
