This was a great accomplishment as she was not even in the mix until the last race of the season. “She needed a first place finish in order to even qualify. So what does she do? She gets first place,” said Nielsen. Mandel is the youngest Campgaw champion and still has another year in the J5 class of racers. He finished fifth among all 10 and under racers. The next closest racer at his age level came in twelfth place. Coach Fischer said the future looks bright for Cooper. “He has a refreshing attitude on the hill,” the coach said. “He’s a great teammate and he hates to lose.” Ramsey residents Oscar Priesler and Kim Creegan also raced and medaled, but did not compete in Gunstock. Foundation (continued from page 6) FLEF Trustee and event co-chair Gina Hayes and FLEF Co-vice President Maureen McLaughlin both voiced their excitement about the success of the event. “We are thrilled at not only the opportunity to offer our constituency the latest in auction technology, but also the financial success that we achieved thanks in large part to these sophisticated technological additions,” Hayes stated. McLaughlin added, “The online, silent, and live auctions, which featured generous and unique donations from our schools, teachers, municipality and community, all contributed to a record-breaking financial achievement for FLEF and we are so looking forward to granting every dollar back into our children’s classrooms.” According to Nihamin, the FLEF is comprised of 20 parent volunteers who are dedicated to enriching the quality of education in the borough’s pre-K through grade eight district by providing grants to fund innovative programming that would not be possible within the limitations of the board of education’s budget.
