For more than three decades, West Bergen Mental Healthcare has been honored to present the Distinguished Service Award to outstanding community leaders. On Sunday, April 3, West Bergen will continue this tradition by recognizing Midland Park residents Laurie and Russ Kamp as its 2011 honorees. The award ceremony will be held at the Agency’s 34th Annual Brunch at the Park Ridge Marriott in Park Ridge beginning at noon. In announcing the Kamps’ selection, Quentin W. Wiest, President of West Bergen’s Board of Trustees said, “All of us on West Bergen’s Board are so pleased that the Kamps are being recognized in this special way. This symbol of excellence is given each year to exceptional individuals. Laurie and Russ’ generous spirit and devotion to others make them the ideal recipients of this prestigious award.” As a family focused organization, West Bergen is especially pleased to be able to honor the Kamps. Over the years, they have supported each other and, in turn, have supported many worthy causes – West Bergen among them. The honorees met at Fordham University, where Laurie earned a bachelor’s degree in math and economics. After graduating, Laurie worked as an investment banker for EF Hutton before being promoted to dedicated mom, for five children, for more than 24 years. Russ earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Fordham. He is senior vice president and director of asset management for Two Sigma Investments in New York City. After joining West Bergen’s Board of Trustees in 2000, Russ served the agency as executive president from 200104 and as president of the board from 2004-08. During his nine-year tenure on the board, he was instrumental in

Laurie has held numerous important posts including vice president of the Midland Park Education Foundation, PTA president, class mother for nearly 20 years, and classroom art teacher. In addition, she has served as co-chair of the Midland Park Love Fund; producer, director, and coordinator of the Midland Park Players Summer Theatre Group; manager of the Godwin and Highland schools’ talent shows for many years, and dance teacher at In the Spotlight in Waldwick. Russ is also committed to a wide range of community activities. He served as member of the Midland Park Board of Education from 1995-2004, manager/coach for numerous Midland Park sports programs for nearly 20 years, and coordinator of the 2010 Midland Park High School Graduation Ball. The Kamps are active with Church of the Nativity in Midland Park. Laurie served as Eucharistic Minister, a Member of the Baptism Committee, and provided religious instruction for more than 15 years. A trustee of Nativity, Russ also holds the post of chairperson of the Finance Committee and was co-manager of Nativity’s Capital Campaign in 1994.
