Franklin Lakes March 16, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 7 Newcomer to challenge school board incumbents by Frank J. McMahon The deadline for filing nominating petitions to seek election to the Franklin Lakes Board of Education has passed and three incumbent trustees will be challenged by a new candidate who will compete for one of the three three-year terms available on the K-8 board of education this year. Meanwhile, another new candidate will run unopposed for the one, two-year unexpired term of former school board member Gabrielle Gutierrez. Newcomer Craig Urciuoli of Bayberry Lane has filed a nominating petition to seek election to one of the three-year terms. Incumbent trustees Larry Loprete, who was chosen by the board to replace Barbara Capozzi; Susan McGowan, who was appointed to the board last August to replace Gutierrez; and Carolyn Reitz, the board’s vice president, will also seek reelection. James P. “Jamie” Martino of Oak Haven Lane filed a nominating petition and will seek election to Gutierrez’s two-year unexpired term without any opposition. Trustee Lisa Sciancalepore, who was appointed to the school board in 2007 and was elected in 2008, will not seek reelection. Urciuoli is married and has two children. He moved to Franklin Lakes in November 2006. His oldest son is currently in first grade at the Colonial Road School and his youngest will be in kindergarten at that school in the fall. A member of the Most Blessed Sacrament parish, Urciuoli founded and operates a private family foundation whose mission is to enhance the quality of education by financially assisting organizations that promote, support, and encourage the improvement of children’s educational needs. His foundation has created a number of scholarships for deserving children over the last five years, and financially supports a number of organizations and schools. He has a bachelor’s degree from Hofstra University in banking and finance and an MBA in finance from Baruch College. He is a CFA Charter Holder and a member of the New York Society of Securities Analysts. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Albany in finance with a minor in economics and a master’s in business administration and international finance from Saint John’s University. Since 2006, he has been the managing director of his own firm, TelecomMarketplace.net, a management and technology consulting firm. He was previously a chief executive officer and senior executive for the telecommunications and procurement industries. Martino has extensive board of director experience in the private sector. He regularly speaks about entrepreneurial studies at Fairleigh Dickinson University and at many telecommunications and technical industry conferences. He has also been a guest speaker at an organization that strives to develop skills in women and minorities to help them become board of director members.
