Fall soccer registration begins The Wyckoff Recreation Department will hold signups for the fall soccer season in the Eisenhower School cafeteria on March 19 from 9 to 11 a.m. and March 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. Registration will also be held in the recreation office March 21 through 25 from 9 to 4. The Northwest Bergen Soccer League is for players born between Aug. 1, 1995 and July 31, 2003. Girls’ games are played on Saturday mornings and boys’ games are held on Sunday afternoons. A wallet size photo is required at registration. The fee is $70 per child. Only two teams for high school soccer players participating in the Northwest Bergen Soccer League will be formed. The first 40 registrations will be accepted and all others will be placed on a waiting list. The high school league is a co-ed league that practices once a week (typically on Fridays) and plays on Sunday afternoons. The fee is $75 per participant. The first and second grade soccer programs are for players entering grades one and two in September. First grade boys will meet from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturdays and first grade girls will meet from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. Second grade boys and girls will play more structured games on Saturday mornings at various times and fields in town. The registration fee for these programs is $50. The kindergarten soccer program is an instructional program for players who will be entering kindergarten in September. Kindergarteners meet on Saturdays from 9 to 10 a.m. or 10 to 11 a.m. at Pulis Field on Wyckoff Avenue behind the YMCA. The registration fee for this program is also $50. Children in kindergarten through grade two may participate in both soccer and football (registration for football will be held in May). However, children in grades three through eight may not participate in both sports during the same season. For information, call the recreation department at (201) 891-3350. Foundation sets Spring Fling Wyckoff Education Foundation will host its Annual Spring Fling Fundraiser and Dinner Dance on April 2 at The Indian Trail Club in Franklin Lakes. Entertainment at the event will be provided by “The Benjamins” band. This year’s theme “Developing 21st Century Learners” acknowledges the rapid advances in education and learning needed to be competitive in the new millennium. The foundation is endeavoring to purchase Apple iPads for the students. The evening will include special prize baskets, and DJ. Tickets cost $90 per person. Chamber plans meeting Publisher Vincent Carnevale will be the guest speaker at the March 17 meeting of the Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber meets at the Larkin House, 380 Godwin Avenue at 8 a.m. Education association offers scholarships The Wyckoff Education Association is offering two scholarships in the amount of $1,200 each to Wyckoff students. One scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior who currently resides in Wyckoff and has attended school in the Wyckoff Public School District. The second scholarship will be presented to a senior who is the child of a current Wyckoff Education Association member. Eligible applicants must be planning to attend a technical school or institute of higher learning. Finalists will be chosen on the basis of academic achievement, extracurricular activities, leadership, and community service. Applications are available at any of the Wyckoff Public Schools and on the WEA website, www.wyckoffwea.org. The full, completed application with all supporting documentation must be received at Eisenhower School, 344 Calvin Court, Wyckoff, no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, April 1.
