‘Urinetown’ comes to MPHS Midland Park High School will present “Urinetown: The Musical” March 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. and March 20 at 3 p.m. at the high school, 250 Prospect Street. Under the direction of Donna Halliwell, the production is a comedy of corporate greed, political corruption, environmental issues, social class, and love. Tickets are $12 each. Tickets will be available at Midland Park High School March 9, 10, and 11 from 3 to 4 p.m. and 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the main lobby. Tickets will also be available, but not guaranteed, at the door before performances. Shop announces special sale The Community Thrift Shop, located on the lower level of the Midland Park Shopping Center, will hold a half-off sale on all winter merchandise on March 22, 23, and 24. Bag day sales are scheduled for March 25 and 26. Fifty-two organizations benefit from the shop’s sales, including several area churches. Regular store hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Mondays are for receiving only from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first Saturday of each month is open for both receiving and shopping. Auxiliary plans Fashion Show The Midland Park Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will meet on Wednesday, March 9 at 10 a.m. in the Faith Reformed Church on 95 Prospect Street. New members are welcome. The auxiliary will be making plans for the Spring Fashion Show scheduled for April 12 at the Brownstone in Paterson. Tickets for the show will be distributed at this time. As part of the group’s regular activities, members volunteer at Kurth Cottage on the third Thursday of the month. Blue Jean Ball set Tickets for The Midland Park Public Education Foundation’s Blue Jean Ball are now available. This year’s event will be held on March 5 from 7 to 11 p.m. at Saint Nicholas Church in Wyckoff. The evening will feature live music by The Embracers, DJ entertainment by Midland Park resident John Gormley, and other surprise entertainment provided by members of the community. Tickets are $55 each. This is a major fundraising event for the foundation. Proceeds will fund teacher generated classroom and district-wide grants. Saint Patrick’s Day Dance set Church of the Nativity will host its annual Saint Patrick’s Day Dance on Saturday, March 12 at 7:30 p.m. An evening of dancing and a dinner buffet will be featured. Reservation forms may be found in the Church of the Nativity’s weekly bulletin or picked up at the back of the church. Tickets are $30 per person. School board candidates sought Midland Park will have three vacant three-year seats open on its board of education this spring. Interested citizens must file a nominating petition with the board, 250 Prospect Street, by 4 p.m. on March 8 in order to have their names listed on the April 27 ballot. Prospective candidates may obtain a “School Board Candidate Kit” at www.njsba.org. Published by the New Jersey School Board Association, the kit includes a nominating petition, information about legal qualifications for school board candidacy, and the role of the school board member. Information about the New Jersey Ethics Act and important dates in the school election process are also included. ‘Ask the Trainer’ session set On March 5, dog trainer Cindy Mauro will discuss activities people and their dogs can enjoy during severe
weather. The program will be presented from 11 a.m. to noon at Ethos Fitness and Spa, 85 Godwin Avenue, in Midland Park. This “Ask the Trainer” session is open to the public and free of charge. Note: Please do not bring dogs to this event. Summer Camp Open House set On Saturday, March 12, the Midland Park Recreation Department will host an Open House to showcase its summer programs. Parents and first-time campers are welcome to visit the DePhillips Community Center, 50 Dairy Street, between noon and 2 p.m. Open House attendees will meet the director and members of the staff, tour the facility, and learn about the program. Lions offer scholarships The Midland Park Lions Club is offering two $500 scholarships to Midland Park High School’s graduating seniors. High school seniors who reside in Midland Park and plan to attend an institution of higher learning are encouraged to apply. Students may contact their guidance counselors for an application. All other students may pick up an applica-
tion from the Midland Park Public Library at 250 Godwin Avenue in Midland Park. Scholarships will be awarded based on the applications submitted, which will be at the sole discretion of the Midland Park Lion’s Club. Applications are due April 12. Family Night set The Midland Park Recreation Department will host Family Night on Saturday, March 19 at the DePhillips Community Center, 50 Dairy Street from 7 to 9 p.m. The event will feature a DJ, dancing, karaoke, air hockey, ping pong, Guitar Hero, and board games. Snow removal reminder The Borough of Midland Park reminds residents that they need to clear snow from sidewalks within 12 hours after the end of a storm. It is illegal to throw or deposit snow in the roadway; snow should be shoveled or blown away from the roadways. Residents are asked to clear snow away from fire hydrants near their properties so the fire department will have access to those hydrants from the street.
