This non-profit consignment shop staffed by volunteers from five Wyckoff School PTOs, Ramapo APTS, and Indian Hills PTSO, sells gently used clothing and small household items to directly benefit the local schools. Located in the old railroad station at 399 West Main Street in Wyckoff, the shop is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Evening hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The shop is open the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donations of spring and summer clothing are now being accepted. Volunteers are always needed. Call (201) 891-5765. Community invited to celebrate Purim Temple Beth Rishon in Wyckoff invites the community to a special Purim celebration on March 19. The evening will begin with a family Purim Pasta Dinner at 5:30 p.m. This will be followed by the Megillah reading at 6:15 p.m. including Purim songs with the youth choir, a clown/magician, and a costume parade. Family festivities will continue at 7:15 p.m. with a Purim Ball featuring live music with The Templetones and dessert. Dinner is free for members who make reservations. Distinguished speaker series continues Temple Beth Rishon welcomes the community to the next installment of its annual Food for Thought Distinguished Speaker Series featuring Rabbi Amy Scheinerman, president of the Baltimore Board of Rabbis, on Sunday, March 6 at 9:45 am. Rabbi Scheinerman will discuss “Envy: The Toughest of the Ten Commandments.” The rabbi is noted for her interactive teaching of Talmudic texts that respond to universal human concerns. Military Bridge night set The Eisenhower Middle School PTO will host its annual Military Bridge Night on Thursday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at Eisenhower School, 344 Calvin Court, Wyckoff. (Snow date: March 10.) The event will feature military bridge, and gift basket prizes. No card playing experience is needed. Tickets are $8 each, or $30 for a table of four. Hannon Scholarship applications available Applications are now being accepted for the 2011 Dana Hannon Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was established in memory of Dana Hannon, a firefighter with the FDNY Ladder 34, who was killed on Sept. 11, 2001. Hannon was also a volunteer with the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department. In honor of their commitment to community service, two high school seniors will receive a $1,500 scholarship. Applicants must be Wyckoff residents with plans to continue their education in a college, vocational, or technical school. Ladies Night announced The Wyckoff Newcomers and Neighbors will host Ladies Night Out at Brady’s at the Station in Ramsey, on Thursday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. Members and prospective members are invited. Wyckoff Library prepares for move Renovations at the Wyckoff Public Library are about to begin. On March 1, the library at 200 Woodland Avenue will close while the staff readies for the transition to its temporary site at 637 Wyckoff Avenue in the Wyckoff Shopping Center. The temporary site is due to open on March 14. While the transition is being made, the Franklin Lakes Public Library has agreed to serve as Wyckoff’s home library. Materials put on reserve and loan requests may be picked up in Franklin Lakes. Reserves made during the transition should be made through the Franklin Lakes Library. Hours at the Wyckoff Shopping Center location will be as follows: Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library will be closed on Sundays. Couples paddle tournament rescheduled The Wyckoff Newcomers & Neighbors group rescheduled the Third Annual Couples Paddle Tournament & Pizza Night to Saturday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Brookside Racquet Club in Allendale. Racquets, balls, and pizza will be provided. Members and prospective members are welcome to attend. No previous paddle experience is necessary. Friends plan Pancake Breakfast The Friends of Wyckoff will host an Old Fashioned Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, March 19 at the Wyckoff Reformed Church, 580 Wyckoff Avenue. Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to noon. The menu will include homemade pancakes in a variety of flavors, sausage, orange juice, tea, and coffee donated by Dunkin’ Donuts on Cedar Hill Avenue. Tickets are $10 each, $8 for seniors, and $30 per family. Children under age five eat free. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at www.FriendsOfWyckoff.org.
