Registration is required. Hat’s Off to Summer participants will decorate their own baseball hats, listen to hat stories, play hat games, and eat a cone “hat” sundae. Two sessions of the program will be offered. Children in kindergarten through second grade will meet on Wednesday, July 6 at 2:30 p.m. Children in grades three through six will meet on Thursday, July 7 at 2:30 p.m. Franklin Lakes residents may register beginning June 16. Non-residents may register beginning July 1. Kids in kindergarten through grade three are invited to rock around the world with “Cool Beans” on July 11 at 2:30 p.m. Singer and illustrator Steve Pullara, who created the “Cool Beans” music and art program, will create original artwork while children listen to high energy interactive songs. This event is sponsored by Friends of the Library. Franklin Lakes residents may register beginning June 16. Non-residents may register beginning July 7. Travel the Globe with Art Kids Rule will be offered on Tuesdays, July 12, 19, and 26 and Aug. 2 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Students in grades four through eight are invited to explore multi-cultural crafts from various countries and cultures from around the world with artist Brandon Dorney. Franklin Lakes residents may register beginning June 16. Non-residents may register beginning July 7. On July 14, the library will host “Kids Cook with Chef Vicki.” This program is for children in kindergarten through grade two. Chef Vicki will help children learn basic cooking skills, make a tasty treat, and have fun in the kitchen. Children in kindergarten through grade two will meet from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Those in grades three through six will meet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Registration is required. Franklin Lakes residents may register beginning June 15; non-residents on July 12. Songwriter and entertainer Teri Merliss will present a five-week program for children age four and up. In this Friends of the Library sponsored program, Merliss will offer summer stories and sing original songs with the children. The program will run on Fridays at 11 a.m. on July 15, 22, and 29, and Aug. 5 and 12. Franklin Lakes residents may begin to register on June 22. The library will present a Firefly Story and Hunt on July 25 at 7:45 p.m. Stories will be told indoors and the hunt will begin outdoors at 8:15. Attendees are reminded to bring a container to catch those critters. The program is open to children ages three through eight. Franklin Lakes residents may sign up beginning July 12. Library board to meet The Franklin Lakes Library Board of Trustees will meet June 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the local history room of the library, 470 DeKorte Drive. The meeting is open to the public. Board of education plans meeting The Franklin Lakes Board of Education will meet June 21 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the music room of the Franklin Lakes Middle School, 755 Franklin Avenue. Animal shelter offers obedience classes The Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. will offer basic and advanced obedience group classes at the VFW Hall in Franklin Lakes on Thursday evenings. Registration is under way for a basic obedience class at 6 p.m. and an advanced class at 7:20 p.m. Classes will begin June 30. Space is limited. The fee is $145 or $130 for RBARI alumni. There will be a Kick-off Party with rock band Starfish, on June 29. Sign up for both the reading and the concert has begun. The club is open to readers and pre-readers of all ages who live in Franklin Lakes. Each week, participants will present a log of books read to the children’s department at the library. Children may win prizes and receive an invitation to the “One World, Many Stories” Celebration on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. starring “One Man Sideshow” David Smith. Correction The article on the Franklin Lakes Surgical Center that appeared in the June 1 issue of Villadom TIMES stated that two members of the Franklin Lakes Planning Board filed a lawsuit against the board regarding the issue of recusing themselves from the public hearing. While the two board members are represented by counsel, they have not filed a lawsuit in this matter. Town Fair plans underway Planning for the Sept. 24, 2011 Franklin Lakes Town Fair is in full swing. The Town Fair Committee invites all local businesses, Chamber of Commerce members, school and community organizations, and houses of worship to participate in this year’s celebration, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Rain date: Sept. 25.) The event will include carnival rides and food, which will be available until 8 p.m. Non-profit organizations may sell food, games, drinks, and rides. Franklin Lakes residents and businesses may sell items or sponsor an activity. Out-of-town crafters may participate for an added fee. She uses color to stimulate the retina and evoke an emotional response from the viewer. Her roots are deeply imbedded in Indian culture, which makes use of intense, vibrant hues. Silk is the fiber of her choice as it maintains a balance of radiance and fluidity to her work. Gandhi is a member of Riverdale Art Cooperative and teaches adults and children around the North Jersey area.
