Dear Readers: Another summer is upon us here in the Township of Wyckoff. Many changes have come to our town over the past year, most notably the expansion of the Boulder Run Shopping Center. There has also been the temporary moving of the library, and we are all widely aware of even more changes to come. I recently read with profound interest and pride, an article stating that housing prices in Wyckoff have been doing extremely well when compared with other municipalities in Bergen County. The reasons for this are varied, but we should certainly feel grateful to live and work in such a wonderful community. The Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce represents over 100 local businesses, and serving as president of this organization is an honor and responsibility I do not take lightly. I always encourage people to shop locally and to recognize the excellent professional services that are offered so close to home. Many fine medical, legal, financial, and other businesses are located in Wyckoff. Remember that local merchants and professionals support Wyckoff charities and spend money in our immediate community, which keeps the economy going. Many of us will take advantage of the longer days and school closings to travel in the coming months. A few travel facts from the U.S. Tourism Association follow: • Travel is the United States is responsible for over 7.4 million jobs. • Every hour, $80 million dollars is spent on travel. • Over 56 percent of international travel to the United States comes from Mexico and Canada. • California is the biggest tourism state, receiving $99.4 billion. • Florida tourists spend $70.5 billion in the state • About $9.4 billion is spent in New Jersey. When you’re not traveling, I look forward to seeing you all shopping around town and at all the many events in Wyckoff over the summer months. Have a safe and enjoyable summer!
