The Midland Park Farmers Market, which drew praise and crowds during its first year of operation last spring and summer, is back in operation with improvements based on last year’s experience, according to organizer Oggi Echavarria of Friendsville Farms. The Midland Park Lions Club is the market’s non-profit sponsor. “We did great last year; that’s why we

are back,” said Echavarria, praising the Lions Club for their help and support. He points out that he has been working at farmers markets since he was young and loves the interaction with people who come by to buy the fresh food and partake of the “country” experience. Echavarria is again selling his delicious bread, fresh mozzarella, pickles and prepared frozen dinners. One of last year’s farm stands is back but much larger, offering greater variety of fruit, vegetables and fresh-baked goods at outstanding prices. A Polish deli is offering pirogues and specialty breads, and another stand has gourmet nuts and sundried fruit. Among the new vendors this year are Mortgage Apple Cakes, featured
in Oprah; Bodhi soap, which is believed to help psoriasis sufferers, Maria’s Biscotti and other vendors. The market is held in the park-and-ride lot behind Rosario’s Italian Restaurant off Central Avenue in the Wortendyke section of town. It runs every Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
