The program will begin at 2 p.m. From the archives of The Yiddish Radio Project, the recordings include the famous Barry Sisters’ performance of Jewish melodies in swing. Temple Emanuel’s archivist, Charlie Sokol, will relate the story of a forgotten Jewish hero from the 1920s and an overview of Jewish radio during that period. Choral society to perform The New Jersey Choral Society Ensemble “Chanteurs” will perform at Franklin Lakes Public Library for the library’s final Sunday afternoon concert of the season on Sunday, June 12 at 2 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.The library is located at 475 DeKorte Drive. Valley Hospital Auxiliary holds installation luncheon The Franklin Lakes Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host its annual installation luncheon on Wednesday, June 8 at noon at the Indian Trail Club, 830 Franklin Lake Road in Franklin Lakes. New officers will be installed, and programs and events for the upcoming season will be presented. The cost is $25 per person and includes a three-course lunch. Attendees will learn about the auxiliary and this year’s pledge to the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Unit and Valley Home Care’s Maternal Child Health Program at Valley Hospital. All are welcome. Board of education to meet The Franklin Lakes Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, June 7 at 8 p.m. The session will be held in the Franklin Lakes Middle School Music Room, 755 Franklin Avenue. Summer reading club begins The Franklin Lakes Library’s Summer Reading Club, “One World, Many Stories,” will begin June 21 and run through Aug. 13. Early bird participants may register Monday, June 13 to receive a sign-up prize, and become eligible for a pre-registration contest to be announced at the Kick-off Party with rock band Starfish, on June 29. Sign up for the concert begins June 8. The club is open to readers and pre-readers of all ages who live in Franklin Lakes. Each week, participants will present a log of books read to the children’s department at the library. Children may win prizes and receive an invitation to the “One World, Many Stories” Celebration on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. starring “One Man Sideshow” David Smith. Seniors plan trip The Franklin Lakes Seniors will travel to Woodlock Pines on June 16. The day will include coffee, tea, lunch, a boat ride, entertainment, games, and access to the resort’s pool, hot tubs, bocce courts, and county store. Individuals who live outside the borders of Franklin Lakes may apply for membership if they reside within a safe and reasonable distance from the ambulance corps building. That distance will be determined by the captain and/or the third lieutenant taking into account the corps’ standard operating procedures and all applicable traffic rules and regulations. Those who wish to join the ambulance corps must be at least 16 years of age, and must be emergency medical technicians, and currently certified in CPR. Each prospective member must submit an application to the ambulance corps, undergo a background check, and be interviewed and reviewed by the captain and/or third lieutenant of the corps. Upon approval by the captain and/or third lieutenant, new members must be presented to the corps at a regularly scheduled meeting. After being presented, all approved members must be listed by the third lieutenant according to their probationary member status. An application for probationary membership status can be rejected based on a physician’s statement of incompatible physical limitations, conviction of driving while intoxicated within the previous two years, a history of treatment for drug or alcohol addiction within the past two years, conviction of a felony involving moral turpitude within the past eight years, providing false information on the application, or for living outside the boundary of what is considered a safe and reasonable distance from the corps.
