On June 7, voters will be asked to endorse their parties’ candidates for available seats on the local governing bodies. Winners of the Democratic and Republican primary elections will meet in the November general election. Independents have until the day of the primary to announce their candidacy, and write-in candidates who receive enough votes in the primaries may also run in the fall. Summaries of the June 7 elections follow: Franklin Lakes There will be no contest in this year’s Republican primary in Franklin Lakes, where Councilwoman Paulette Ramsey and Joseph F. Kelly are running for the two available terms, and Councilman Charles Kahwaty is seeking the unexpired term. Kahwaty was chosen by the council in February to fill the vacancy created when Frank Bivona

was sworn in as mayor. Midland Park Councilman Patrick “Bud” O’Hagan is running unopposed for the mayor’s seat in the Republican primary, and Councilmen Mike Junta and Nick Papapietro are also unopposed in their reelection bid for the two available council seats. No Democrats have filed. In the November general election, however, the mayor’s position is expected to be challenged by Russell Kamp, with current Mayor Joseph Monahan seeking one of the council seats. They announced May 16 that they will be filing their joint petition as independents by the June 7 filing deadline. Wyckoff Although there is no contest in either the Republican or the Democratic primaries this year, Wyckoff voters will
have a choice this November, when incumbent Democratic Wyckoff Township Committeeman Brian Scanlan, Republican incumbent Thomas Madigan, and GOP newcomer Doug Christie seek the two available seats on the township’s governing body. Scanlan will run alone in his party’s primary, and Madigan and Christie will run unchallenged as they seek endorsement in the Republican primary.
