Board of education to meet The Franklin Lakes Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, June 7 at 8 p.m. The session will be held in the Franklin Lakes Middle School Music Room, 755 Franklin Avenue. Auxiliary holds luncheon The Franklin Lakes Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host its annual installation luncheon on Wednesday, June 8 at noon at the Indian Trail Club, 830 Franklin Lake Road in Franklin Lakes. New officers will be installed, and programs and events for the upcoming season will be presented. The cost is $25 per person and includes a three-course lunch. Attendees will learn about the auxiliary and this year’s pledge to the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Unit and Valley Home Care’s Maternal Child Health Program at Valley Hospital. All are welcome. Summer reading club begins The Franklin Lakes Library’s Summer Reading Club, “One World, Many Stories,” will begin June 21 and run through Aug. 13. Early bird participants may register Monday, June 13 to receive a sign-up prize, and become eligible for a pre-registration contest to be announced at the Kick-off Party with rock band Starfish, on June 29. The club is open to readers and pre-readers of all ages who live in Franklin Lakes. Each week, participants will present a log of books read to the children’s department at the library. Children may win prizes and receive an invitation to the “One World, Many Stories” Celebration on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. starring “One Man Sideshow” David Smith. In preparation for the summer reading program, children in kindergarten through grade three are invited to decorate their own suitcase, hear travel stories, and make a treat to eat on Tuesday, June 28 at 2:30 p.m. at the library. Learn to download audiobooks The Franklin Lakes Public Library will offer a BeAT Open Session Class on Thursday, June 2 at 7 p.m. Participants will learn how to download audiobooks onto several devices from a home computer. Basic computer & Internet class offered The Franklin Lakes Library, 470 DeKorte Drive, will offer a Basic Computer and Internet Class, on Wednesdays and Fridays, June 1, 3, 8, and 10 from 11 a.m. to noon. This free four-part series will cover information about the mouse and keyboard, Windows desktop, Internet terminology and navigation, and tips on search techniques using Google and simple databases. Participants must be able to commit to all four classes. No experience is necessary

Resume writing help offered Debbie De Vries of CTCR Resumes will present an informational workshop, “Resume and Job Search Tips,” on Tuesday, June 7 at 7 p.m. at the Franklin Lakes Public Library, 470 DeKorte Drive. DeVries will offer tips on writing a resume that gets results. A question and answer session will follow. All are welcome to attend. Seniors plan trip The Franklin Lakes Seniors will travel to Woodlock Pines on June 16. The day will include coffee, tea, lunch, a boat ride,
entertainment, games, and access to the resort’s pool, hot tubs, bocce courts, and county store. The bus will depart from the Franklin Lakes recreation field at 9:15 a.m. The cost for members is $37; $42 for nonmembers. (continued from page 9) meeting, which would inhibit the public body’s ability to obtain needed legal advice, which is contrary to the public interest; plus, a new requirement that public bodies be permitted to exclude the public from discussion of personnel matters only with the written consent of the potentially affected employee, thereby inhibiting the public body’s ability to take necessary actions on personnel matters. Other requirements of the legislation include more extensive minutes of public meetings, confusing regulations pertaining to disclosure of recordings of meetings, and the inclusion of electronic communications concerning public business among an effective majority of the members that occurred prior to a meeting. In addition, it contains new requirements for maintaining schedules of meetings, agendas, notices of emergency meetings, minutes, resolutions, and ordinances on the municipal website, and closed meeting resolutions, for a period of at least five years, which would result in additional costs for posting and maintaining website information. The council claimed the cost generative provisions violate the “state mandate, state pay” amendment to the New Jersey Constitution, and voted unanimously to urge the state legislature not to pass this proposed legislation.
