Council honors borough’s two newest Eagle Scouts
by Frank J. McMahon The Franklin Lakes Borough Council recently honored Eagle Scouts Colin Andre Knight and Michael Cameron Piccoli with proclamations signed by Mayor Frank Bivona. Both Knight and Piccoli were recognized by the Boy Scouts of America for successfully completing all requirements for Boy Scouting’s highest rank, and their friends, family, and members of the Boy Scouting community were on hand to support them on attainment of the rank of Eagle Scout and to recognize the faithful and steady path taken by both of them within the Boy Scout organization. “We commend Colin and Michael on their Eagle projects,” Bivona said. He went on to describe the projects undertaken by each of the Boy Scouts to attain their Eagle rank. Knight’s project included replacement and restoration of the patio and front garden at the New Jersey Audubon Society’s Lorrimer Nature Sanctuary in Franklin Lakes with new stone pavers, painting the front door and side panels, trimming bushes, clearing and replanting flower beds, and creating a new flower bed using the bricks from the old patio entrance. “Colin, with the help of 22 Scouts, has brought new life to the facade of the lovely historic Lorrimer Sanctuary building,” Bivona said. Piccoli’s project involved the restoration and beautification of the physical fitness path at the Colonial Road School in Franklin Lakes, including removal of trees and debris, laying mulch, building two park benches and setting them in concrete, and repairing park equipment. “The project involved 25 Scouts, and they helped allow the children to once again enjoy an outside gym class and, as a special benefit, autistic children have also been able to enjoy the physical fitness path,” Bivona said. “Scouting, for both boys and girls, has been an integral part of the community of Franklin Lakes as well as a positive influence for many years,” Bivona said after presenting both Eagle Scouts with their proclamations, “and we note that the Boy
Scouts of America is celebrating (its) 100th anniversary year within the United States of America. “As the mayor of the Borough of Franklin Lakes, on behalf of the mayor and council and the residents of the borough, I hereby recognize and congratulate Eagle Scouts Knight and Piccoli for their outstanding accomplishments, and I extend to them our deepest appreciation for all of their hard work and wish them the best in all of their future endeavors.”
