Throughout his trail to Eagle, he went on numerous campouts, held various leadership positions, and completed several merit badges. Two of his most memorable moments with Troop 77 include completing the hiking merit badge and launching rockets for the space exploration merit badge. Everson has also been active in National Youth Leadership Training and the Order of the Arrow, the Boy Scouts’ honor society. He has also gone to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, otherwise known as “Boy Scout Paradise,” where he backpacked 70 miles in 10 days. NYLT is a program in which Boy Scouts are taught valuable leadership skills and learn to work as a team. Everson attended NYLT as a participant in 2007 and returned as staff member in 2009 and 2010. He is scheduled to return this summer. His Eagle project involved creating a new garden for Bethany Church in Washington Township. Work included
tearing down an old retaining wall and building a new wall, planting new flowers and bushes, and fundraising. Everson thanks the Wyckoff-Midland Park Rotary for their generous donation, Starbucks at Boulder Run, and Dunkin’ Donuts at Cedar Hill for their willingness to let him sell his candy bags out front. He also wishes to thank Scoutmaster Rob Andrews, his parents, all the other scout masters and Troop 77 for coming out to help sell candy bags, move rocks, dig holes, and take out old plants and put in new for this project. Everson will be a senior at Eastern Christian High School this fall. He is a member of the National Honor Society, and is involved in Class Council and other school activities. He is on the varsity bowling team and varsity golf team at Eastern Christian. His hobbies include wakeboarding, downhill skiing, camping, hiking, and swimming. He was recently chosen from a field of many applicants to attend this summer’s Bentley University’s Wall Street 101 program for students entering their senior year of high school. After high school, Everson plans to pursue a degree in business.
