Freegal will allow the Franklin Lakes Library to increase the size and diversity of its collection by offering access to hundreds of thousands of songs. Under the terms of the agreement, registered cardholders of the Franklin Lakes Public Library may download a select number of Sony Music tracks in the MP3 format each month at no direct cost via www.franklinlakeslibrary.org. Board of education to meet The Franklin Lakes Board of Education will meet July 19 at 8 p.m. in the music room at the Franklin Lakes Middle School, 755 Franklin Avenue. Children’s programs abound at library The Franklin Lakes Public Library is offering a host of programs for children in July. Mr. Twister will transform ordinary balloons into realistic sculptures for children ages five and up at the library on Wednesday, July 20 at 2:30 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Children who will be entering grades four through six are invited to roll up their sleeves and tie-dye a T-shirt on Thursday, July 21 at 3 p.m. Participants must bring a white cotton T-shirt. On July 28, The Uncle Brothers band will present a high energy, interactive family special at 7 p.m. All ages are welcome. Family specials are sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Back by popular demand, the Paws for Reading program will continue throughout the summer. Beginning and accomplished readers who will be entering grades one through six are invited to polish their reading and speaking skills by reading aloud to well-behaved certified therapy dogs. The program will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. on July 25, and Aug. 8 and 15. Each student is welcome to read for a 10-minute period. Songwriter and entertainer Teri Merliss will present a program for children age four and up. In this Friends of the Library sponsored program, Merliss will offer summer stories and sing original songs with the children. The program will run on Fridays at 11 a.m. on July 22, and 29, and Aug. 5 and 12. The library will present a Firefly Story and Hunt on July 25 at 7:45 p.m. Stories will be told indoors and the hunt will begin outdoors at 8:15. Attendees are reminded to bring a container to catch those critters. The program is open to children ages three through eight. Registration for these programs is required and may be completed by calling (201) 891-2224 or visiting the library at 470 DeKorte Drive during regular hours. Opinions sought The Franklin Lakes Public Library is asking residents to complete a survey aimed at improving the services its renders to the community. The survey takes just a few moments to complete. To use the online version, visit www.franklinlakeslibrary.org and select “Participate in our Library Survey.” For those who prefer paper copies, forms are available at all library service desks. The library is located at 470 DeKorte Drive. Heavenly Treasures Sale under way The 23rd Heavenly Treasures Sale of the Presbyterian Church at Franklin Lakes is under way. Thousands of items are available at incredibly low prices. Furniture, sports equipment, collectibles, and household goods are just a few of the sections in this indoor and outdoor event. The sale will continue rain or shine in the tents and in the church building through July 23. Sale hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and in the evening Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. The church is located at 730 Franklin Lakes Road. Donations can be brought to the church. Proceeds benefit the mission and ministries of the church, which is celebrating its fiftieth year and welcoming its new pastor, Rev. Louis Allan Kilgore.
