Police investigate assault, burglary, additional incidents
At 3 a.m. on July 2, a 20-year-old Indian Trail Drive resident reported that he had been assaulted by two males wearing Halloween masks that had entered his unlocked home. The victim had hosted a small party shortly before the assault. After his guests left, the two males entered and demanded money and cell phones. The two assailants left after a brief struggle taking nothing with them. The victim was transported to Hackensack Hospital for treatment. The case has been forwarded to the detective bureau. Officers Robert Grassi and Nicholas Klein investigated. At 9:29 p.m. on June 21, Officer Rynander responded to a reported burglar alarm at a Peachtree Lane residence. Upon his arrival, he observed a number of persons in the rear yard flee, and he gave chase. It was determined that the residence had been burglarized; apparently five suspects were involved. Three escaped on foot, two escaped in a light colored minivan. All five appeared to be black males. Entry was gained by forcing the front doors. The bedrooms were ransacked, and it appears that jewelry was taken. The Bergen County Police K-9 unit assisted to track the suspects with negative results. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit processed the scene. Wyckoff police assisted with the search. No arrests were made. Lieutenant John Bakelaar and Officers William Cook, Gerard Gansel, and Jon Rynander investigated. The police department advises residents that the best method of deterring a burglary is to make the home appear occupied. An alarm system in itself is not enough to deter all burglars. Connecting interior lights to timers is an excellent method that will give the appearance of occupancy. Visit www.franklinlakes.org for more information. On June 30, after receiving a report from the Fair Lawn Police Department of multiple motorcycles traveling north on Route 208 at a high rate of speed, Franklin Lakes police arrested a 21-year-old Lodi resident, who was charged with eluding, speeding, unregistered motor vehicle, improper passing, fictitious license plates, driving while suspended, failure to obey traffic signal, unsafe lane change, and failure to signal turn. Officers observed the Lodi resident on Route 208, but did not stop when signaled to do so. He exited at Colonial Road

and dumped the motorcycle on Sioux Lane and attempted to flee. He was found hiding in bushes nearby. Sergeant Karl Klein and Officer Denny Knubel investigated. As a result of a motor vehicle stop the same day, a 42-year-old Lakewood man was arrested on an outstanding warrant emanating from the Ocean Township Municipal Court. Bail was posted, and the man was released. Officer Jon Rynander investigated. On June 29, a Park Road resident reported missing an amount of jewelry that may have been stolen from the home. There were no signs of forced entry or burglary. Sergeant James Schnaidt investigated. On June 28, a Navaho Trail Drive resident reported that unknown persons had entered his unlocked car during the overnight hours as it was parked in the driveway. A set of golf clubs, rangefinder, golf GPS unit, iPods, and cigars were reported missing. Officer Mark McCombs investigated. On June 26, an Apache Road resident reported that unknown persons had made fraudulent transactions using her ATM card. The case has been forwarded to the detective bureau. As a result of responding to a reported suspicious vehicle parked on Linden Way on June 25, a 17-year-old juvenile male resident of Franklin Lakes was detained and will be charged with possession of marijuana. The case will be forwarded to the Bergen County Family Court. Officer Gerard Gansel investigated.
