New recreation director is off to a good start
Midland Park’s new recreation coordinator, Kathy LaMonte, has hit the ground running since her appointment to the post last month. “It’s been wonderful,” she said. “So far, everything is running smoothly, and the kids seem to be having fun. Once summer camp is over, we’ll get to everything else that needs to be done.” Helping with the smooth transition, LaMonte said, was the fact that she was already familiar with many of the parents and youngsters through her interim role following the resignation of former director Lori Dent in February. LaMonte has been covering the Recreation Barn duties daily during the after-school hours and worked with Dent as an evening substitute at the Barn since 2009. She has been a cafeteria aide at Godwin, Highland and the high school since 2005, and was on the Midland Park Baseball Association board of directors for three years and ran the snack bar. She also volunteered in the sports programs in which her children, 15-year-old Joey and 13-year-old Leanne, participated. “Seeing a familiar face in the position is putting every-
one at ease,” LaMonte said, adding that she is looking forward to working with families to meet their needs. (continued on page 9)
