Wyckoff July 13, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 11 The Wyckoff Police Department arrested a former Cablevision employee for using internal knowledge of the township’s financial structure to make $3,500 worth of illegal electronic payments of her own debts with municipal money. The 28-year-old Plainfield woman had been an employee of Cablevision when she obtained the bank account numbers and routing numbers on corporate checks sent in for payment of services. She reportedly used the information she had obtained to make payments on a car loan, personal utility bills, and a student loan with Wyckoff taxpayers’ money. Wyckoff Chief Financial Officer Diana McLeod reported that she had discovered fraudulent deductions from a township bank account, and Wyckoff Detective Sergeant Joseph Soto followed up with an investigation that led to the arrest for theft, forgery, and identify theft. The third degree crime charges have been forwarded to the Bergen County Superior Court. Sergeant Soto also arrested another outside employee in an unrelated case. When the resident returned to the unlocked car, he found that his wallet, which had been lying on the front seat, had been stolen. Sgt. Soto obtained video surveillance tapes of the parking lot, and saw that an employee of a trash hauling company had entered the car. A 20-year-old man from Newark was arrested and an active warrant for his arrest on other charges was also discovered. He was released on his own recognizance and will appear in municipal court. Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox has issued another warning to residents urging them to lock their car doors even when the cars are parked in driveways or in front of private homes. Over the past few weeks, police have investigated thefts from parked cars. Items taken included wallets, electronic equipment, GPS units, cameras, purses, and cash. “Nobody is breaking into these cars,” Chief Fox said. “The thieves are simply pulling the handles of cars parked in driveways and parking lots. If the car is locked they move on and your property is safe. If you have left your car unlocked, you will be a victim. On June 20 at 5:50 p.m., a resident of Ravine Avenue reported a burglary at her home. The home, vacant since 8 a.m. that morning, was entered by using a pry bar to open a rear window. Several rooms in the home were ransacked, and the owners are reviewing items that may have been stolen. Detective Michael Musto and Patrolman Terrance Murphy investigated. On June 25 at 11:54 p.m., Patrolman Brian Zivkovich stopped a vehicle on Sicomac Avenue for speeding. The vehicle was owned by someone other than the driver, and circumstances of the stop led police to check with the owner to ascertain whether the driver had permission to operate the vehicle. Sgt. Daniel Kellogg and Ptl. Zivkovich went to a Willow Run home where they then discovered that an underage drinking party was in progress. A 19-year-old resident of the home was charged with making property available to underage persons to consume alcohol while his parents were away for the weekend. The complaint will be heard in municipal court. On June 26 at 9:18 p.m., the Wyckoff Police Department received multiple calls from citizens regarding fireworks being discharged at a Calvin Court home. An investigation by Sgt. Jack McEwan led to the arrest of a 43-year-old Calvin Court resident who was charged with possession of fireworks. He was released on his own recognizance and will appear in municipal court.
