Auxiliary plans brunch meeting The Midland Park Valley Hospital Auxiliary will hold a Feb. 8 covered dish brunch at 10 a.m. at the Faith Reformed Church, 905 Prospect Street. School board candidates sought The Midland Park School District will have three vacant three-year seats open on its board of education this spring. Interested citizens must file a nominating petition with the board, 450 Prospect Street, by 4 p.m. on March 8 in order to have their names listed on the April 27 ballot. Prospective candidates may obtain a “School Board Candidate Kit” at www.njsba.org. Published by the New Jersey School Board Association, the kit includes a nominating petition, information about legal qualifications for school board candidacy, and the role of the school board member. Information about the New Jersey Ethics Act and important dates in the school election process are also included. Board of education to meet The Midland Park Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, Feb.1 at 8 p.m. in the August C. DePreker Media Center at Highland School. Meals on Wheels seeks volunteers Community Meals Inc., a non-profit meal delivery program, is reaching out to the Midland Park community for volunteer drivers. CMI’s mission is to provide nutritious meals to individuals who are unable to shop or cook for themselves due to age or disability, and who live in Midland Park, Glen Rock, Ridgewood, Allendale, Ho-Ho-Kus, and Waldwick. Midland Park is currently CMI’s third largest market, with 15 clients being served. Currently there are no volunteer drivers from Midland Park. Volunteer drivers donate their time and vehicles to deliver meals on one of the nine routes. Drivers meet in the kitchen of Christ Church in Ridgewood at 11 a.m. and usually complete their routes in under an hour. Weekly, bi-weekly, and substitute opportunities are available. For some clients, the CMI volunteer may be their only contact that day. The Lady Panthers went 3-0 to win tournament beating Westfield, Rutherford and Montville in championship games. Baseball registration open The Midland Park Baseball Association will hold inperson registration on Jan. 29 at the Midland Park Public Library, 250 Godwin Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room. Update: Donations sought for soldier program The Needlecraft School in Midland Park is seeking donations of toiletries, stuffing material, and funds for its “Adopt-a-Soldier” program. The children in the class make pillows for the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Those pillows are shipped to the soldiers along with toiletries and other non-perishable items, such as unbreakable holiday tree ornaments, paperback books and DVDs (new or used), handy wipes, powdered drinks, puzzles, holiday or greeting cards, stationery, hard
candy, and gum. Due to the success of the program, Needlecraft School Director Ginny Fawcett is also looking for donations of clean, washable polyfill or funds to purchase it; volunteers able to pick up a shipment in Danbury, Connecticut, and others able to divide up a large shipment into manageable units. Anyone able to help is asked to contact Fawcett (201) 444-2976 or stop in at the school across from the Midland Park Post Office, 216-A Godwin Avenue, Midland Park. Kindergarten registration set The Midland Park School District advises parents of prospective kindergarten entrants that pre-registration will be handled by phone from Monday, Feb. 14 through Thursday, Feb. 17. To pre-register, parents should call (201) 4455350 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. or from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Students with last names beginning with A through M may call either Monday, Feb. 14 or Wednesday, Feb. 16. Children with last names beginning with N through Z may call Tuesday, Feb. 15 or Thursday, Feb. 17. At this time, parents will be scheduled for full registration and screening during the week of March 21. In order to be eligible for enrollment, children must be age five before Oct. 1, 2011. After school recreation activities available High school students who are interested in playing volleyball, ping pong, basketball, or chess after school on Mondays or Wednesdays may sign up at the DePhillips Community Center or e-mail the recreation department at mprec@optonline.net.
