Scholarships are awarded every year to high school seniors who perform at the festival and whose musical skills and participation in community outreach are deemed outstanding. Engel, who died in 2007, touched the lives of countless individuals through the Festival of Young Performers and his earlier work as a teacher and conductor. Scott to present history lecture Autumn Wind Scott will present “The People of the Slanting Rock” at the Mahwah Museum on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. Through photos and artifacts, Scott will relate the story of New Jersey’s aboriginal people. Chair of the New Jersey State Commission on American Indian Affairs, Scott is a member of the Ramapough Lenape Nation. She has served her community officially since 1999 as a member of the New Jersey State Commission on American Indian Affairs. Appointed in early 2007 by Governor Corzine, Scott has been an activist for American Indian rights for over 20 years. She is a lecturer and a producer and coordinator of American Indian events. Admission to Scott’s lecture is $3 per person; free for Mahwah Museum members. Refreshments will be served.
