Wyckoff Wanderings
Township seeks photos of Maple Lake The Township of Wyckoff is seeking old photos of Maple Lake for use in its grant application to Bergen County for funding to acquire the 27-acre site. Plans call for the creation of a nature sanctuary on the site. Residents with photos may email wyckoffbooth@wyckoff-nj.com to make an appointment to stop at Wyckoff Town Hall to have the image scanned and promptly returned. Photos may be of the lake, its facilities, or families enjoying the property when Maple Lake was in operation from the 1940s to the 1970s. Study of the Gospel of Mark begins Dr. David Wiley, pastor at Grace United Methodist Church, 555 Russell Avenue in Wyckoff, will lead a seven-week study, “The Gospel of Resurrection,” focusing on the Gospel of Mark. The study will begin Feb. 16. Most scholars believe that Mark’s Gospel ends with the eighth verse of chapter 16, and that Mark does not include any resurrection appearances, but that does not mean the resurrection is absent. The only text that will be used for this study will be the Bible. No previous Bible study experience or knowledge of scriptures is necessary to participate in this study. Classes will meet in the church parlor from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. For more

The site includes information on library events, blogs for children and teens, and will eventually include updates on the library construction project. Website visitors may also browse the Bergen County Cooperative Library System catalog, and members may access their library accounts. The site also includes access to two online encyclopedias: World Book and Britannica. BCCLS databases may be searched, and a thorough history of the library is available. Features include Ask a Librarian; a selection of recommended websites for adults, teens, and children; recommended reading, including staff picks; and information about library hours, directions, trustees, staff, and policies. The Wyckoff Public Library is located at 200 Woodland Avenue. Walks must be cleared In the interest of pedestrian safety, the Township of Wyckoff reminds residents and property owners of their obligation to keep the sidewalks that adjoin their properties free of snow and ice. Property owners are advised to wait at least eight hours after the snow stops falling before shoveling the walks so snow plows do not throw the snow back onto cleared walks. Snow must be removed from sidewalks within 12 hours of daylight
The Wyckoff Township Committee approved five contracts for shared services with other communities or governmental operations to try to keep expenses down for 2011. Wyckoff agreed to rent the Northwest Bergen County Utilities Authority sewer cleaning vehicle and to rent the sewer inspection line vehicle to diagnose sanitary sewer problems. Wyckoff will now be able to use Bergen County’s Sewer Jet/TV Truck for inspection and cleaning purposes. Wyckoff already participates in a shared services agreement for a street sweeper and for sewer pump station maintenance with the Northwest Bergen County Utilities Authority. The committee also purchased

municipal court teleconferencing services from the Village of Ridgewood. Wyckoff purchased state-mandated Well Baby Services from Waldwick, which contracts to provide this program to other communities, including Allendale. The municipal government will also sell gasoline to the Wyckoff Board of Education, resulting in a saving to taxpayers since the two autonomous operations collect property taxes from the same residents. Wyckoff is also part of WOLF, a joint purchasing consortium with Franklin Lakes and Oakland. All told, the township has 20 shared service agreements with other communities. J. KOSTER types O- and O+.
