Pianist to perform The Chabad Jewish Center invites the community to enjoy the company of friends, an open bar, buffet dinner, and the music, humor, and inspiration of Canadian virtuoso pianist Gershon Wachtel on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. Gershon’s world-class repertoire of classical, Broadway, and Jewish music is interspersed with a moving and entertaining talk about his life’s journey and painful challenges. Gershon holds a master’s degree in piano performance from New York University and has performed in virtually every major city in North America and Europe. Twice, he was chosen to accompany the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team to the Olympics and he has been featured on CBC and CBS radio and NBC TV. The event will be held at a private residence in Wyckoff. Alliances offer Positive Parenting program The Municipal Alliances of Franklin Lakes, Oakland, and Wyckoff are sponsoring a three-part workshop for parents of fifth grade students in the FLOW area. Presented by The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources, “Positive Parenting” will be held on three consecutive Wednesdays – Jan. 26, and Feb. 2 and 9 -- at the Franklin Lakes Ambulance Corps Building on Bender Court from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The program is presented free of charge. “Positive Parenting” helps parents build resilience in their children and foster understanding and communication with their teens and preteens. This three-session program has been shown to significantly increase participants’ knowledge of drugs and alcohol and provide concrete skills to assist parents in communicating with their children. Military Bridge Night set Ramapo High School’s Project Graduation will hold a Military Bridge Night on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the school, 331 George Street in Franklin Lakes. Tickets are $10. Purchasers may choose to become Super Senior Supporters, and pay $15 for each ticket. Advanced registration is preferred, but tickets will be sold at the door. Military bridge is an easy card game. No prior knowledge of the game is necessary to play. Gather a group of friends, or come alone. The event will also include refreshments and baskets of prizes. Proceeds will support Project Graduation, an alcohol and drug free post-graduation celebration for the Ramapo’s senior class. Event invitations are available at rih.org.
