Library hosts valentine craft workshops Local artist Jacque Benevento will present Valentine craft workshops for children at the Franklin Lakes Public Library, 470 DeKorte Drive. Two sessions will be offered. Session One, for children in kindergarten through grade three, will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 4:15 p.m. Session Two, for children in grades four through seven, will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 4:15 p.m. Registration is required, and space is limited. Registration for Session One is open for Franklin Lakes residents; non-residents may register beginning Jan. 31. Registration for Session Two will begin for Franklin Lakes residents on Jan. 21; non-residents may register on Feb. 7. To register, call (201) 891-2224 or visit the library during regular hours. Magic workshop offered Children in grades three through six are invited to a magic workshop on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. Participants will watch a demonstration by a professional magician, and learn a few tricks. Exhibit features process paintings During the month of January, the community is invited to the Presbyterian Church of Franklin Lakes to view a variety of process paintings by artist Linda Dumoff. A resident of Wayne, Dumoff works out of her studio space in Riverdale. She graduated from Fashion Institute of Technology and received a BA in psychology from Caldwell College. Movies to be presented The Franklin Lakes Public Library, located at 470 DeKorte Drive, will offer feature movie presentations on the library’s theater-sized screen on Friday, Jan. 21 at 4 p.m. and on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. Registration is not required; all ages are welcome. Learn about paying for college Joshua Marber, MS.Ed., a professional with over 10 years of experience in the education, counseling, and college fields, will visit the Franklin Lakes Library on Jan. 20 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to advise teens and their families about the college admission process. Travel baseball teams hold tryouts The Franklin Lakes War Eagles will hold tryouts for the travel baseball season on Saturday, Jan. 22 at Teel’s Baseball School, 445 Braen Avenue, Wyckoff. Players will be evaluated on their hitting, fielding, throwing, and running skills. Players trying out for the 8U team will meet from 2:30 to 4 p.m.; the 9U team, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.; the 10U team, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.; and the 11U and 12 U from 7 to 9 p.m. To register to try out, call (201) 847-8200. Woman’s Club hosts Blood Drive The Woman’s Club of Franklin Lakes, in cooperation with the Bergen Community Blood Center, a non-profit organization, will hold a Blood Drive on Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Franklin Lakes Ambulance Corps Building on Bender Court. Participants may schedule an appointment in advance through the Community Blood Center (201) 251-3703, or walk in on the day of the drive.

Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation. Children invited to winter program Children in kindergarten through grade two are invited to join the Franklin Lakes Library’s Brrrright and Snowy program on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 4:15 p.m. Children may listen to cozy stories by the fireplace, work on a winter craft, and snack on a snowman cookie. Registration is required and may be completed by calling the Franklin Lakes Library at (201) 891-2224 or visit the library at 470 DeKorte Drive during regular library hours. Trustees to meet The Franklin Lakes Board of Trustees will meet on Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the local history room in the library. This meeting is open to the public. Temple to host ‘Concert for Darfur’ Peace through Music: A Concert for Darfur, will take place Jan. 29 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Barnert Temple, 747 Route 208 South in Franklin Lakes. The coffee-house style acoustic concert will feature amateurs and professionals of all ages. The event will include prize baskets and contests. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under age 13, and may be purchased at the door or in advance.
