January 19, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES I & III • Page 17 Midland Park Matters Midland Park Councilwoman Nancy Cronk Peet, an eight-year veteran of the governing body, was elected to head the council for 2011 during the governing body’s reorganization meeting. She and Councilman Patrick “Bud” O’Hagan were sworn in to their fourth and eighth terms, respectively. Peet chairs the council’s personnel committee and serves as the liaison to the board of education. She was also selected to serve as the council representative to the Midland Park Planning Board, a position she has held for several years. She is also a member of the Midland Park Board of Health. A former 18-year member and president of the board of education, Peet served for seven years as chairman of the borough’s zoning board of adjustment before her appointment to the borough council in January, 2003. An active member and past president of the Midland Park Lions Club, O’Hagan served as chairman of the Midland Park Board of Adjustment for many years. He is a Realtor with Terrie O’Connor Realtors, Allendale office. Council committees named The borough council liaison committees for 2011 were appointed as follows (first name noted is the chairman): Finance/Ambulance - Councilman Nick Papapietro and Councilman Michael Junta Public Safety, Police - Councilman O’Hagan and Councilman Scott Pruiksma Public Safety, Fire – Councilman Junta and Councilman Bernard Holst Public Works - Councilman Holst and Councilman O’Hagan Recreation - Councilman Pruiksma and Councilwoman Peet Board of Education Liaison - Councilwoman Peet Board of Health Liaison – Councilman Junta Municipal Alliance Liaison - Councilman O’Hagan Community Development – Mayor Joseph Monahan and Councilman Pruiksma. DPW Foreman Rudy Gnehm will serve as the Recycling Coordinator. The Needlecraft School in Midland Park is seeking donations of toiletries, stuffing material, and funds for its program, which supplies homemade pillows to soldiers serving overseas. The children in the school’s sewing classes make pillows for soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. The pillows are then shipped to the soldiers along with toiletries and other nonperishable items, such as paperback books, DVDs (new or used), handy wipes, powdered drinks, puzzles, greeting cards, stationery, hard candy, and gum. He is also a commis- MPOEM compiles addresses of disabled The Midland Park Office of Emergency Management and the Midland Park Volunteer Ambulance Corps are compiling the names of disabled and developmentally challenged residents so as to know where these special needs people live when an emergency arises. They have prepared a questionnaire they would like families to fill out identifying these individuals, their conditions and their needs. All information will be kept strictly confidential and only shared among the two organizations and the Midland Park Volunteer Fire Department as necessary in an emergency.
