Midland Park Matters
Next month, Midland Park resident Betty Sullivan will be honored for her many years of dedicated service to the Midland Park Children’s Love Fund, Inc. The celebration will be held Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. at The Brownstone, 351 West Broadway, in Paterson. Tickets are $75 per person. Proceeds will benefit the Midland Park Children’s Love Fund, Inc. Sullivan helped launch The Love Fund in 1977 to aid a student in the Midland Park schools who was struggling with anorexia. The organization’s name, which originally referred to that student, was eventually changed and the organization was refocused with the goal of providing confidential aid to other community children in need. In the 1990s, Midland Park’s group also helped Wyckoff residents to organize the independently-run Love Fund of Wyckoff. Sullivan has been a parishioner of the Church of the Nativity for many years, and served as a member of the Midland Park Council for 14 years. She is an experienced Realtor with over 30 years in the business. She works with Terrie O’Connor Realtors, and is considered the “Midland Park Specialist.” She was the New Jersey MLS’s

She and her husband Dave have resided in town for nearly 50 years. They raised eight children. Most of the people who seek aid from the Love Fund are working, but they are having a hard time. The fund is not there to provide frills or extras, but rather to help families stretch their resources so they can put food on the table. Many have children with issues, and the Love Fund tries to help with that as well. In addition to financial assistance, Love Fund volunteers offer referrals to appropriate government agencies and help parents navigate the process. Often, people are embarrassed to seek help, or intimidated by onerous requirements. The Love Fund provides assistance on a confidential basis -- without red tape. whose families are in need when economic, medical, emotional or physical crises strike. Love Fund representative Michelle Nejmeh urges the community to attend the fundraiser to support the organization. She noted that there are many members of the community in need, and the Love Fund’s officials have been dipping into their savings in order to meet clients’ needs. For more information about the Feb. 17 event, contact Nejmah at (201) 670-7292. Contributions from individuals, businesses, religious and service organizations are welcome at any time. Memorial donations are encouraged. To contribute, send gifts to P.O. Box 327, Midland Park 07432 or drop off at any of the town’s banks. The Love Fund also asks residents to refer any person or family who may be in need of assistance.
