January 12, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 13 Midland Park Midland Park resident and Master Photographer Jeffrey Steccato, owner of Haviland Studio in Ho-Ho-Kus, has received the Professional Photographers of America’s national award, the highest honor granted by a PPA affiliate, in recognition of his support of photography, going far beyond any regular expectations or contributions to his profession. “Jeff is an all around nice guy, he always has a smile and gives freely of his time and talent,” said PPA of New Jersey President Frank Patterson. “He has had much success with State and National Print competitions, Borough resident receives national photography award and among his many accolades are several distinguished Courts of Honor, Judges Choice Awards, and the prestigious Kodak Gallery Award. His work has appeared on magazine covers, calendars, and has been displayed in the coveted Professional Photographer’s Loan Collection several times throughout his career. “On the national level, he is a long time PPA member who religiously attends as many national conventions as he can. He has served as a PPA Councilor and is a Certified Professional Photographer. In August of 2000, he achieved his master’s degree in photography. Along with the present award given, the master’s degree is the highest honor awarded by the Professional Photographers Association of America, ranking Jeffrey in the three percent of top photographers nationwide.” Steccato began studying photography in high school, started his career taking pictures for a local newspaper covering high school sporting events, and in 1982, became the apprentice to Master Photographer Theodore Haviland. He was trained in the “old school” tradition of printmaking, even as far as making his own chemicals to develop his prints. In 1997, upon the retirement of his friend and mentor, Steccato purchased Haviland Photography Studio. One thing that makes this award even more special is the fact that underneath all his smiles and humor and willingness to volunteer, are some very tough times in his personal life. His son, Jeffrey Robert, has significant developmental issues. When The Midland Park Public School District recently announced plans for a new integrated high quality preschool program for 2011-12.
