Members of the volunteer fire departments from Wyckoff, Franklin Lakes, Oakland, and Waldwick and volunteers from the Wyckoff Ambulance Corps recently joined forces to fine-tune their ice rescue skills. During the weekend exercise, volunteers cut holes in the ice covering Wyckoff’s Zabriskie Pond, and firefighters dressed in thermal wet suits were placed in the water. Members of the local fire departments then practiced their life saving rescue

skills, including how to safely reach persons trapped in frozen or partially frozen water. The four fire departments created real life situations and practiced rescue techniques with specially manufactured equipment that can be deployed to rescue single and multiple victims. This equipment was purchased through a grant from the Bergen County 200 Club. (continued on page 7)
