Hannon Scholarship applications available Applications are now being accepted for the 2011 Dana Hannon Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was established in memory of Dana Hannon, a firefighter with the FDNY Ladder 34, who was killed on Sept. 11, 2001. Hannon was also a volunteer with the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department. In honor of their commitment to community service, two high school seniors will receive a $1,500 scholarship. Applicants must be Wyckoff residents with plans to continue their education in a college, vocational, or technical school. Applications, which must be postmarked by May 15, are available by emailing danahannonscholarship@ho tmail.com. Wyckoff Library prepares for move Renovations at the Wyckoff Public Library are about to begin. On March 1, the library at 200 Woodland Avenue will close while the staff readies for the transition to its temporary site at 637 Wyckoff Avenue in the Wyckoff Shopping Center. The temporary site is due to open on March 14. While the transition is being made, the Franklin Lakes Public Library has agreed to serve as Wyckoff’s home library. Materials put on reserve and loan requests may be picked up in Franklin Lakes. Reserves made during the transition should be made through the Franklin Lakes Library. Hours at the Wyckoff Shopping Center location will be as follows: Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library will be closed on Sundays. Ladies Night announced The Wyckoff Newcomers and Neighbors will host Ladies Night Out at Brady’s at the Station in Ramsey, on Thursday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. Members and prospective members are invited. Couples paddle tournament rescheduled The Wyckoff Newcomers & Neighbors group rescheduled the Third Annual Couples Paddle Tournament & Pizza Night to Saturday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Brookside Racquet Club in Allendale. Racquets, balls, and pizza will be provided. Members and prospective members are welcome to attend. No previous paddle experience is necessary. Friends plan Pancake Breakfast The Friends of Wyckoff will host an Old Fashioned Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, March 19 at the Wyckoff Reformed Church, 580 Wyckoff Avenue. Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to noon. The menu will include homemade pancakes in a variety of flavors, sausage, orange juice, tea, and coffee donated by Dunkin’ Donuts on Cedar Hill Avenue. Tickets are $10 each, $8 for seniors, and $30 per family.
Children under age five eat free. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at www.FriendsOfWyckoff.org. All advance sale tickets may be picked up at the door the morning of the breakfast. Partial proceeds from this event will benefit environmental programs in the Wyckoff schools. Committeeman to address Chamber Members of the Wyckoff Township Committee will attend the Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce’s Feb. 24 meeting. Committeeman Brian Scanlan will present an update

Military Bridge night set The Eisenhower Middle School PTO will host its annual Military Bridge Night on Thursday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at Eisenhower School, 344 Calvin Court, Wyckoff. (Snow date: March 10.) The event will feature military bridge, and gift basket prizes. No card playing experience is needed. Tickets are $8 each, or $30 for a table of four. At Ramapo, 90.5 percent of the graduates went on to a four-year college or university, 6.2 percent went on to a two-year college, and one percent pursued employment. At Indian Hills, 80.2 percent of the graduating students went on to a four-year college or university, 14.1 percent went on to a two-year college, and while 1.1 percent joined the military. The student/administrator ratio at Ramapo was 125.1 to one. At Indian Hills, the ratio was 119.2 to one. The state average is 178.5. The student/faculty ratio was 9.4 to one at Ramapo and 11 to one at Indian Hills. The state average was 10.8. At Ramapo, 36.6 percent of the faculty and administrators had BA or BS degrees, 59.5 percent had MA or MS degrees, and 3.8 percent had Ph.D. or Ed.D. degrees. At Indian Hills, the figures were 37.4 percent, 61.7 percent, and 0.9 percent, respectively. The median salary for district administrators was $127,106. For the faculty, the median salary was $61,113. The average years of experience for district administrators was 17; for district faculty, the average was eight years. The corresponding averages in the state are $119,066 and 22 years experience for administrators, and $66,220 and 10 years for faculty. The district’s total cost per pupil for 2009-10 as compared to other districts of similar budget type was $16,598 versus a state average of $14,354. The total per pupil cost, including tuition, transportation, lease purchase interest, residential costs, judgments against the district, equipment, facilities/acquisition costs, restricted expenses less nonpublic services, adult schools, and students sent out of district, was $19,061 per pupil versus a state average of $16,937. Skeens eventually set many records at Ramapo College and was signed to a major league contract by the Minnesota Twins. Reese also mentioned a player named Greg Kuzma, who graduated in 1984 and played baseball for four years at Princeton. At Indian Hills, where 289 students were tested in language arts literacy, 3.8 percent were partially proficient, while 61.2 and 34.9 percent were proficient or advanced, respectively. In mathematics, 6.6 percent of the 331 students tested at Ramapo were partially proficient, and 52 and 41.4 percent were proficient or advanced, respectively. At Indian Hills, where 290 students were tested in mathematics, 13.1 percent were partially proficient, and 53.1 and 33.8 percent were proficient or advanced, respectively. The comparable averages in the state were 12, 69.3, and 18.7 percent in language arts literacy and 25, 50.7, and 24.3 percent in mathematics. Average SAT scores for Ramapo were 566 math, 549 verbal, and 566 essay, combining for a total average SAT score of 1681. The average SAT scores at Indian Hills were 556 math, 543 verbal, and 562 essay for a total average SAT score of 1661. The state’s average SAT scores were 520 math, 497 verbal, and 499 essay, for an average state total SAT score of 1516. At Ramapo, 34.4 percent of the students in grades 11 and 12 participated in the Advanced Placement Tests. At Indian Hills, 30.7 percent of the grade 11 and 12 students participated. The state average was 19.9 percent. The report cards show that 98.1 percent of Ramapo’s Class of 2010 and 95.8 percent of last year’s graduating at Indian Hills finished on time. Statewide, 94.7 percent of the Class of 2010 graduated.
