February 16, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 23 Wyckoff Wanderings Friends plan Pancake Breakfast The Friends of Wyckoff will host an Old Fashioned Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, March 19 at the Wyckoff Reformed Church, 580 Wyckoff Avenue. Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to noon. The menu will include homemade pancakes in a variety of flavors, sausage, orange juice, tea, and coffee donated by Dunkin’ Donuts on Cedar Hill Avenue. Tickets are $10 each, $8 for seniors, and $30 per family. Children under age five eat free. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at www.FriendsOfWyckoff.org. Cooper offers program on jail ministry Margaret Cooper will present “Paterson Jail Ministry” at the Feb. 22 meeting of the Wyckoff Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary. The program will be held at the Advent Lutheran Church, 777 Wyckoff Avenue, beginning at .10:15 a.m. Refreshments will be served. Councilman to address Chamber Wyckoff Township Committeeman Brian Scanlan will present an update on the township’s programs and plans at the Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce’s Feb. 24 meeting. Military Bridge night set The Eisenhower Middle School PTO will host its annual Military Bridge Night on Thursday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at Eisenhower School, 344 Calvin Court, Wyckoff. (Snow date: March 10.) The event will feature military bridge, and gift basket prizes. No card playing experience is needed. Tickets are $8 each, or $30 for a table of four. Kindergarten registration to begin Registration for Wyckoff children who will begin kindergarten in September 2011 will be held Feb. 15 through 17 at Eisenhower Middle School, 344 Calvin Court, in Wyckoff. Registration is open to all township residents who will be five years old by Oct. 1, 2011. Registration will be take place from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. on each of the three days; school administrators and nurses will be on site to answer questions. For the first time, the district will provide registration at a central location. No appointments are necessary, but parents are asked to note that that, in an effort to move the process along efficiently, an alphabetical order will be used. Registration will be open on Tuesday, Feb.15 for children whose last names begin with A through H, Wednesday, Feb 16 for those whose last names begin with I through R; and Thursday, Feb. 17 for those whose last names begin with S through Z. Four proofs of residency are required. Proofs of residency may include a parent or guardian’s driver’s license, proof of rent or mortgage payment, utility bill, tax bill, etc. Proof of the child’s age and identity, such as a birth certificate, baptismal or naming certificate, etc. are also required. Family Card Night planned Wyckoff PTO Coordinating Council will host a Family Card Night on Thursday, Feb.17 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eisenhower Middle School. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. (Snow date: March 4.) The event will feature games of Crazy Eights, simplified Military Bridge, and prize baskets for children. Volunteers sought for nursing home visits Heritage Manor Nursing Home at Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff is seeking volunteers to visit with some of the residents once a week. Club learns about heart disease “Women and Heart Disease” will be presented at the Wednesday, Feb. 16 meeting of the Woman’s Club of Wyckoff. A representative from the Center for Women’s Heart Health at Valley Hospital will lead the talk. The meeting portion of the afternoon will begin at 1 p.m., and the program will begin at 1:45 p.m. This program, held at the clubhouse at 176 Wyckoff Avenue, is open to the public. Register for spring recreation programs The Wyckoff Recreation Department will hold spring registration on Wednesday, Feb.16 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Eisenhower School cafeteria. There will not be a second Saturday registration. The spring schedule includes a co-ed T-ball program for boys and girls in kindergarten, a modified T-ball/baseball/ softball program for boys and girls in first grade, baseball for boys in grades two through eight, and softball for girls in grades two through eight. Boys in grades four through eight who will play recreation baseball will use wood bats this year. The fee for kindergarteners is $50, and the fee for children in grades one through eight is $70. The spring baseball/softball season will begin with practices in late March or early April. Games for players in grades two through eight will begin April 18. Temple offers classes Men and women who are interested in participating in Temple Beth Rishon’s upcoming adult Bar and Bat Mitzvah class are invited to an orientation session on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. The class meets regularly for 15 to 18 months. Cantor Ilan Mamber directs the adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah program and teaches Judaic studies and familiarization with the religious service. Students attend Rabbi Kenneth A. Emert’s adult education classes, and tutor Judy Ackerman teaches a special beginning Hebrew reading class and helps students prepare for their special service. Plant expert to address gardeners The Wyckoff Area Garden Club will host Chris Rubino, northeast sales manager for Monrovia Growers, on Feb. 16 at the McFaul Environmental Center on Crescent Avenue, Wyckoff. Rubino will discuss the latest plant trends and what new introductions gardeners can expect to see at in 2011. Refreshments will be served at 9:30 a.m. and the program will begin at 10 a.m. Study of the Gospel of Mark begins Dr. David Wiley, pastor at Grace United Methodist Church, 555 Russell Avenue in Wyckoff, will lead a sevenweek study, “The Gospel of Resurrection,” focusing on the Gospel of Mark. The study will begin Feb. 16. Most scholars believe that Mark’s Gospel ends with the eighth verse of chapter 16, and that Mark does not include any resurrection appearances, but that does not mean the resurrection is absent. The only text that will be used for this study will be the Bible. No previous Bible study experience or knowledge of scriptures is necessary to participate in this study. Several setback variances would be required. The applicant would also need a variance to permit 89 parking spaces instead of the 106 required by the borough’s zoning ordinance, and a variance to permit nine by 18 foot parking spaces instead of 10 by 20 foot spaces. The public hearing on this application is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the municipal building on DeKorte Drive, where the plans may be reviewed in the downstairs planning and zoning office.
