Summer Camp Open House set On Saturday, March 12, the Midland Park Recreation Department will host an Open House to showcase its summer programs. Parents and first-time campers are welcome to visit the DePhillips Community Center, 50 Dairy Street, between noon and 2 p.m. Open House attendees will meet the director and members of the staff, tour the facility, and learn about the program. Snow removal reminder The Borough of Midland Park reminds residents that they need to clear snow from sidewalks within 12 hours after the end of a storm. It is illegal to throw or deposit snow in the roadway; snow should be shoveled or blown away from the roadways. Residents are asked to clear snow away from fire hydrants near their properties so the fire department will have access to those hydrants from the street. Foundation seeks used blue jeans The Midland Park Public Education Foundation’s Blue Jean Ball Decorating Committee is seeking 300 to 400 gently-used blue jeans in all shapes and sizes for its March 5 gala event. After the event, the foundation will donate the jeans to a local charity. Jeans may be dropped off in the boxes located on the front porches at the following locations now through Feb. 22: 4 Westview Place, 252 Vreeland Avenue, or 106 Hillside Avenue. Tickets for the Blue Jean Ball are now available. This year’s event will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. at Saint Nicholas Church in Wyckoff. The evening will feature live music by The Embracers, DJ entertainment by Midland Park resident John Gormley, and other surprise entertainment provided by members of the community. Tickets are $55 each. This is a major fundraising event for the foundation. Proceeds will fund teacher generated classroom and district-wide grants. When purchasing tickets at www.mppef.org and using PayPal, there will be an opportunity to win additional prize basket tickets. The deadline to order tickets is Feb. 25. Library board of trustees to meet The Midland Park Memorial Library Board of Trustees will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the library, 250 Godwin Avenue, Midland Park. Meetings are open to the public. Girls Scouts collect soup for food bank Midland Park Girl Scout Troop 549 is collecting soup for The Center for Food Action in Mahwah through Feb. 11. Collection boxes will be located at the following locations: Highland School in conjunction with the student council, Godwin School, and the Midland Park Public Library. The Scouts ask the community to donate cans of soup. Board of education plans meeting The Midland Park Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the August C. DePreker Media Center at Highland Elementary School. Baseball meeting set The Midland Park Baseball Association will meet on Monday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Midland Park Public Library, 250 Godwin Avenue. Auxiliary plans brunch meeting The Midland Park Valley Hospital Auxiliary will hold a Feb. 9 covered dish brunch at 10 a.m. at the Faith Reformed Church, 95 Prospect Street. The group will also discuss plans for the upcoming fashion show fundraiser scheduled for April 12. Kindergarten registration set The Midland Park School District advises parents of prospective kindergarten entrants that pre-registration will be handled by phone from Monday, Feb. 14 through Thursday, Feb. 17. To pre-register, parents should call (201) 4455350 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. or from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Students with last names beginning with A through M may call either Monday, Feb. 14 or Wednesday, Feb. 16. Children with last names beginning with N through Z may call Tuesday, Feb. 15 or Thursday, Feb. 17. At this time, parents will be scheduled for full registration and screening during the week of March 21. In order to be eligible for enrollment, children must be age five before Oct. 1, 2011. Children offered Valentine’s Day craft Children are invited to stop in and make a Valentine’s Day craft on Tuesday, Feb. 8 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Midland Park Memorial Library. A variety of projects will be available for children of all ages. The library is located at 250 Godwin Avenue. Those who attend the fashion shows enjoy seeing their friends work the runway, reap the benefit of seeing a variety of fashions without having to travel to multiple locations, and receive coupons for the gift shop. Models may choose the outfits that appeal to their personal taste, so they feel great as they come down the catwalk. Delmonte helps each woman look great by accessorizing each look. Delmonte noted that the local auxiliaries and the shop are “sisters,” adding, The Kamps are also actively involved with Church of the Nativity in Midland Park. Laurie served as Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Baptism Committee and also taught religious instruction for more than 15 years. A trustee of Nativity, Russ also holds the post of chairperson for the Finance Committee and was co- manager of Nativity’s Capital Campaign in 1994. He also served as Eucharistic Minister, member of the Baptism Committee, coordinator and coach for the CYO Basketball program and is currently the coach for the third grade girls’ team. Laurie and Russ have five children: Ryan, a graduate student at Indiana University; Kristen, a graduate student at Columbia University; Connor a student at Boston College; Kelsey, a Quinnipiac student and Mackenzie, a third grader at Highland School. Delmonte selects items that appeal to a wide-range of people, and her customers give her “reviews” every day. Thus far, hospital visitors and employees who patronize Kurth Cottage Gift Shop have provided Delmonte with positive feedback about the clothing being offered. “I have a sense of what sells in various regions of the country,” she explained.
