Baseball meeting set The Midland Park Baseball Association will meet on Monday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Midland Park Public Library, 250 Godwin Avenue. Auxiliary plans brunch meeting The Midland Park Valley Hospital Auxiliary will hold a Feb. 9 covered dish brunch at 10 a.m. at the Faith Reformed Church, 95 Prospect Street. The group will also discuss plans for the upcoming fashion show fundraiser scheduled for April 12. Board of education to meet The Midland Park Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, Feb.1 at 8 p.m. in the August C. DePreker Media Center at Highland School. School board candidates sought Midland Park will have three vacant three-year seats open on its board of education this spring. Interested citizens must file a nominating petition with the board, 250 Prospect Street, by 4 p.m. on March 8 in order to have their names listed on the April 27 ballot. Prospective candidates may obtain a “School Board Candidate Kit” at www.njsba.org. Published by the New Jersey School Board Association, the kit includes a nominating petition, information about legal qualifications for school board candidacy, and the role of the school board
member. Information about the New Jersey Ethics Act and important dates in the school election process are also included. Kindergarten registration set The Midland Park School District advises parents of prospective kindergarten entrants that pre-registration will be handled by phone from Monday, Feb. 14 through Thursday, Feb. 17. To pre-register, parents should call (201) 4455350 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. or from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Students with last names beginning with A through M may call either Monday, Feb. 14 or Wednesday, Feb. 16. Children with last names beginning with N through Z may call Tuesday, Feb. 15 or Thursday, Feb. 17. At this time, parents will be scheduled for full registration and screening during the week of March 21. In order to be eligible for enrollment, children must be age five before Oct. 1, 2011. ‘Ask the Trainer’ session set On March 5, dog trainer Cindy Mauro will discuss activities people and their dogs can enjoy during severe weather. The program will be presented from 11 a.m. to noon at Ethos Fitness and Spa, 85 Godwin Avenue, in Midland Park. This “Ask the Trainer” session is open to the public and free of charge. Note: Please do not bring dogs to this event. Learn about the college application process Join Deborah Shames, a state certified school counselor, for “Surviving the College Admissions Process” at the Midland Park Memorial Library on Feb. 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. Shames, who has nearly 20 years of college admission experience, will discuss how to select the right college,
what financial aid and scholarship opportunities are available, when to visit colleges, and how to get the most out of a college visit. The program is open to the public, especially freshmen, sophomore, and junior students and their parents. To register, call the library at (201) 444-2390. Fatal accident

Bivona praised the volunteers who worked through the night at the accident scene. “It is unfortunate that someone had to pass here, but our volunteers and police really did a fabulous job along with the volunteers from surrounding towns,” he said. On Dec. 24, a vehicular accident occurred at the intersection of McCoy and Colonial roads when a car driven by a borough resident and traveling south on Colonial Road struck a vehicle driven by another borough resident who was making a left turn from McCoy Road at about 5:30 p.m. Both cars were demolished and the driver of the car making the left turn onto Colonial Road was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was hospitalized.
