FLOW Area February 2, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 15 Incumbent trustees eye April school board election by Frank J. McMahon Two Oakland seats and one Wyckoff seat on the Ramapo Indian Hills Regional Board of Education will be available in the April 27 election. The terms of Oakland trustees Sadie Quinlan and Jane Castor, and Wyckoff trustee Jeff Brown are expiring this year. Quinlan has indicated her intention to seek reelection to the school board. Castor and Brown said they are currently undecided, but Castor said she is leaning toward seeking another term. Nominating petitions are currently available at the administrative offices of the school board which is located at the Indian Hills High School located on Yawpo Avenue in Oakland. The petitions may be picked up between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. weekdays. Anyone interested in seeking election to a seat on the regional school board must complete and file the nominating petition with the school board secretary no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday March 8. Quinlan is seeking her third term on the regional school board, having been elected to her second term on the board as an Oakland representative in 2008. She was previously the president of the Dogwood Hill School Parent Teacher Association, and she is a dental hygienist who worked at the Bergen County Department of Health Services as a dental health educator. She is a member of the Oakland Woman’s Club, a former member of the Oakland Mothers’ Club, a past president of the Oakland Newcomers Club, and an active member of Most Blessed Sacrament Parish in Franklin Lakes. Castor would be seeking her second term on the board, having been elected to her first three-year term in 2008. She has lived in the Borough of Oakland since 1990 and she has two sons, one of whom is an Indian Hills High School graduate, while the other is a senior at that school. Sticker shock She has a BBA in human resource management from Pace University in New York, and has worked for the elementary and middle school Parent Teacher Organizations and for the Parent Teacher Student Organization at Indian Hills. Brown was appointed by the regional high school board in April 2007 to fill the term of former trustee and district business administrator David Rinderknecht. He was elected to a three-year term on the school board as a Wyckoff representative in 2008. Brown graduated from Rutgers College in 1979 and the Seton Hall School of Law in 1982. He has been admitted to the bar in the State of New Jersey, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, the State of New York, and the United States Supreme Court. On April 27, voters will also have the opportunity to vote on the school district’s budget for 2011-12. A public hearing on that budget has tentatively been scheduled for March 18 at Ramapo High School, although the school district’s administration has cautioned that state legislation could change the date of school board election and the public hearing on the budget. Recently, the FLOW District’s Municipal Alliances participated in Sticker Shock. The purpose of this program is to raise awareness in the community and discourage people over the age of 21 from providing alcohol to people who are underage. The campaign consists of teams of young people, accompanied by adult chaperones, who place stickers on multi-packs of alcoholic beverages and paper bags at participating liquor stores. This project is part of a cooperative effort between The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources, New Jersey Prevention Network and The Municipal Alliances.
