Page 8 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • December 21, 2011 Midland Park Town’s newest church dedicated First Church of Christ, Scientist held the dedication service of its new church home at 259 Godwin Avenue in Midland Park earlier this month. The colonial style building was designed by Edwin Pope of Pittsburgh, PA, an architect specializing in church buildings. The local congregation was first established in 1902 in Ridgewood, meeting at the home of one of the founding members. Two years ago, the congregation purchased the Bank of America branch building at 259 Godwin Avenue and in 2010 began to transform the site into its present form as a house of worship. Attached to the church is a public Reading Room which is open to everyone. It provides a quiet, peaceful place for prayer and study, as well as a sales room where Bibles and Christian Science literature are available to be borrowed or purchased. Christian Science is a worldwide Protestant denomination, founded by Mary Baker Eddy in 1866, with headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts.
